Effect of lesions of the locus coeruleus complex on the circadian rhythm of plasma corticosterone in the mouse

Summary An apparently transient elevation of basal morning (08.00 h) plasma corticosterone levels in male mice was found 48 h after bilateral electrolytic lesions of the brainstem locus coeruleus complex but was not observed 6 weeks after lesioning.Supported by Alfred P. Changes in glutamine levels during starvation and aestivation in the Indian apple snailPila globosa (Swainson)

Summary The glutamine levels in digestive gland, foot and body fluids of normal, starved and aestivatedPila globosa were estimated. Glutamine content was decreased during starvation and aestivation. The percent decrease was more during aestivation than starvation. The decrease may be due to low glutamine-synthetase activity or increased utilization for uric acid synthesis. This may have an adaptive value during aestivation and starvation.Acknowledgments. C. Sree Ramulu Chetty and P. Scanning electron microscopy of antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity of Friend leukemia virus-infected spleen cells

Summary Friend leukemia virus (FLV) infected splenocytes treated with rabbit anti-FLV serum and subsequently incubated with splenic lymphocytes from non-immune Balb/c mice were examined by scanning electron microscopy. Villous-covered lymphocytes adherred to the tumor cells and induced surface blebs, numerous membrane pores and eventual tumor cell lysis.     

Preparation of large volumes of linear gradient solutions for zonal ultracentrifugation

Résumé On décrit la construction d'un appareil à chambre close pour la préparation de gros volumes de solutions à gradients de densité linéaire. Ces solutions de sucre ou d'autres substances sont généralement utilisées pour l'ultracentrifugation zonale en gradient de densité.     

Reparation at increased oxygen supply

Zusammenfassung Ratten, die in 40% Sauerstoffatmosphäre gehalten wurden, wurden experimentelle Granulome mit Viskose-Zellulose Schwämmen s.c. induziert. Die Inkorporation von markiertem Cytidin stieg um 200% und die Synthese der Phospholipide um 80%. Die Einwirkung der Erhöhung des Sauerstoffgehaltes auf die Kollagensynthese sowohl in vivo als in vitro war additiv und betrug maximal 170%. Weder die Synthese der nichtkollagenen Proteine noch diejenige der Desoxyribonukleinsäuren war wesentlich verändert.

Photodynamic inactivation and reversion inFusarium Species with Acriflavine

Zusammenfassung Es wird erstmals an einem Pilz gezeigt, dass auch beiFusarium infolge der inaktivierenden und mutagenen Wirkung von Acridinen zwischen einer photodynamischen Wirkung im Licht und einer schwächeren, auf anderen Mechanismen beruhenden Wirkung im Dunkeln unterschieden werden kann.

Bronchodilator activity of prostaglandin E2 when administered by aerosol to three species

Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, dass Prostaglandin in Aerosolform bei mehreren Arten als Bronchodilator wirkt. Die Wirksamkeit, natÜrliches Vorkommen und schnelle Metabolisierung der Prostaglandine sprechen fÜr eine therapeutische Verwendung als bronchodilatierende Aerosole.
