Effect of unilateral ureteral obstruction on renal polyamine levels in rats

Summary Unilateral ureteral obstruction in rats, resulted in considerable alterations of polyamine levels in the obstructed kidney during a 72-h observation period, as compared with respective values for the contralateral control kidney.This work was supported in part by the Ministry of Health, Hungary (1-04-0301-03-02/H). The effect of mouse erythrocyte rosette forming lymphocytes on lymphokine production in T-cell cultures

Summary An enhancement effect of mouse erythrocyte rosette forming (MERF) cells on the production of migration inhibitory factor, chemotactic factor for neutrophils and skin reactive factor in T-lymphocyte cultures stimulated with the purified protein derivative of tuberculin was observed. We consider it likely that the MERF cells, possessing the appropriate cell surface constituents to construct an immunogenic moiety, present antigen on their surfaces to elicit lymphokine production.This work was supported by the Scientific Research Council, Ministry of Health, Hungary, Code No. 421030401 1/s     

Reputed rat scotophobin prepared by a solid-phase procedure shown invalid by comparison with a product derived from a classical synthesis on the basis of physical and biological properties

Zusammenfassung Eine Synthese von Scotophobin mit klassischen Methoden ergab ein Produkt, das sich vom natürlichen Peptid hinsichtlich seiner biologischen, chromatographischen und physiologischen Eigenschaften unterschied. Es wird daraus gefolgert, dass die für das natürliche Produkt vorgeschlagene Strukturformel nicht korrekt ist.     

Investigation of smooth-muscle extracts by means of immunodiffusion

Zusammenfassung Es gelang, zwei charakteristische Antigene im 0,154M KCl-Extrakt glatter Hundemuskeln durch Geldiffusion nachzuweisen, die möglicherweise eine Folge des spezifischen Stoffwechsels der glatten Muskulatur sind. Die weitere Möglichkeit besteht, dass ein Teil der Struktureiweisse der glatten Muskeln bereits bei niedriger Ionenkonzentration gelöst wird. Beim spezifischen Antigen des Weber-Edsall-Extrakts glatter Muskeln handelt es sich wahrscheinlich nicht um Aktomyosin bzw. Myosin, sondern um ein anderes Eiweiss oder Kollagen.     

Concentration of "available" unesterified cholesterol in human plasma as evaluated from inhibition of hemolysis by lucensomycin.

The unesterified cholesterol content of plasma samples can be evaluated from the extent of inhibition of lucensomycin-induced hemolysis. The test measures, however, only the fraction of cholesterol which is available for interaction with lucensomycin, this availability being adversely affected by high phospholipid-cholesterol ratios.     

Cyclic AMP during development and ageing of the insectCeratitis capitata

Summary Cyclic AMP was determined during the development of the dipteraCeratitis capitata. The concentration of the nucleotide reaches a peak at apolysis with a sharp decline in the pharate adult stage.
