Frequency-domain study of the mechanical response of living striated muscle

Summary Small-amplitude sinusoidal displacements, in the frequency rang 4–100 Hz, were applied to intact whole frog sartorius muscle whilst in a state of tetanus. At low frequencies the muscle, was observed to do oscillatory work, while at higher frequencies it tended towards elastic behaviour. Frequency-response plots obtained were compared with those from other muscle preparations. Results were interpreted in terms of mechano-chemical transduction properties of muscle.The authors wish to thank the Australian Research Grants Commission for provision of the laser, and L. I. Estrogen receptor in uteri of mice of different H-2 genotypes.

A relationship between the amount of available estradiol receptors in uteri of inbred mice and their H-2 genotype is suggested by study in congenic animals.     

Autoradiographic studies on RNA synthesis and transport in the Salivary gland ofLygaeus sp. (Hemiptera-Lygaeidae)

Summary Autoradiographic studies using³H-uridine in the salivary gland of adultLygaeus sp. were carried out. The gland cell nuclei, particularly the multiple nucleoli, are the sites of incorporation of the label exhibiting RNA synthesis. The labelled molecules (RNA) are transported to the cell cytoplasm and then into the gland lumen in which no turnover of the radioactivity is observed.I am grateful to my teacher, Prof. P. S. Threo-3,4-Dihydroxyphenylserine,a poor source of noradrenaline in the rat

Résumé Chez le rat, les injections dedl-thréo-3,4-dihydroxyphénylsérine, un précurseur pharmacologique synthétique de la noradrénaline, provoquent une conversion de moins de 1% au 4-hydroxy-3-méthoxyphényl-glycol, le métabolite urinaire majeur de la noradrénaline dans cette espèce. Un nouveau cheminement qui entraîne une coupure latérale de la chaîne prit environ 10% de la dose et un autre 10% fût excrété comme un amino-acideO-méthylé; le sort de quelque 80% est inconnu.     

(−)-Δ8-tetrahydrocannabinol: Two novel in vitro metabolites

Zusammenfassung (–)-⁸-Tetrahydrocannabinol ist einer der Aktivstoffe in Marihuana (Cannabis sativa L.). Inkubation dieser Verbindung mit der überstehenden Zentrifugationsfraktion (9000g) aus männlicher Hundeleber ergab zwei Hauptmetaboliten, welche durch Massenspektrometrie und Kernresonanzspektroskopie identifiziert wurden. Den beiden Verbindungen werden die Strukturen des 1-Hydroxy-⁸-tetrahydrocannabinols und des 3-Hydroxy-⁸-tetrahydrocannabinols zugeordnet.
