Different response of adenine nucleotide synthesis de novo in kidney and brain during aerobic recovery from anoxia and ischemia

Zusammenfassung Unter Verwendung von¹⁴C-markiertem Glycin wurden durch Bestimmung der mittleren spezifischen Aktivitäten von Glycin im Gewebe und durch Messung der Glycin-Inkorporation in die Adenin-Nucleotide die de novo-Syntheseraten dieser Verbindungen in Niere und Gehirn in vitro und in vivo unter normoxischen Bedingungen sowie nach vorausgegangener Anoxie bzw. Ischämie bestimmt. Zwischen der Fähigkeit eines Organs zur postanoxischen Nukleotidsynthese-Steigerung und seiner funktionellen Erholungsfähigkeit nach Sauerstoffmangel scheinen enge Beziehungen zu bestehen.

Zusammenfassung Die Prothoraxdrüsen vonCerura vinula L. werden von Nerven innerviert, deren Axone neurosekretorische Grana enthalten und ausserdem in synaptischer Verbindung mit den Drüsenzellen stehen. Diese beiden Tatsachen sprechen für einedirekte Aktivierung der Prothoraxdrüsen durch Neurohormone.

Elektroretinogramm und retinale Impulsaktivität in Hypothermie

Summary The effect of deep hypothermia on the single fibre activity of the optic nerve and on the electroretinogram has been studied in the cat. The ganglion cell activity of the retina has been found to be more resistant than the ERG against the effect of cooling. There is a marked delay in the restitution of theb-wave during rewarming.

Résumé L'intensité de la dépression qu'entraîne l'hyperchlorémie sur la réabsorption tubulaire du bicarbonate chez le chien paraît être essentiellement déterminée par le niveau initial de la réabsorption du bicarbonate.     

Ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung von 19-Norsteroiden

Summary The new methods for the production of 19-norsteroids described involve the conversion of 5-halogen-6-hydroxy-steroids into the corresponding 5-halogen-6:19-ethers either with lead tetraacetate or by the hypoiodite reaction^8,10. The 6:19-oxygen bridge is then opened reductively either directly or after oxidation of the 6:19-ethers to lactones or preferably after introduction of a ^4,6-3-oxo grouping. Acylolytic cleavage of the ⁴-3-oxo-6:19-ethers followed by alkaline hydrolysis gives ^4,6-3-oxo-19-hydroxy-steroids. The 19-hydroxycompounds formed are easily converted into 19-norsteroids by known methods.

Neue mehrfache Untersuchungen am gleichen Kammerwasser menschlicher Augen

Summary The normal human aequous has a volume of 0.12–0.20 cm³ and its protein content is from 10 to 20 mg%. We ascertained the specific weight by the falling drop method in a mixture of xylol and brombenzene. In order to estimate the protein content, we placed a series of drops from the human aequous on filter paper with the Agla pipette; they were then tinted with amido-black and the optical density of the eluted spots was read in the Beckman spectrophotometer. The remnants of 2–3 specimens of human aequous were then brought together and concentrated there until the protein concentration is just sufficient to allow a separation into the various fractions by paper-electrophoresis.      

Degeneration of the peripheral and central nervous system in vitamin-B12-deficient monkeys

Resumen Monos cautivos mantenidos en una dieta vegetariana presentaron niveles séricos de vitamina B₁₂ reducidos y lesiones en el sistema nervioso central semejantes a las de la «degeneración combinada sub aguda» del humano. Los nervios periféricos mostraron desmielinización segmentaria, compatible con un compromiso de las células de Schwann al azar. Usualmente hubo remielinización segmentaria, asociada a veces con degeneración axónica (walleriana). No se encontró evidencia de remielinización o de regeneración axónica que pudiera ser atribuída totalmente al tratamiento con vitamina B₁₂.
