Zusammenfassung Aus den Zwiebeln vonEucomis punctata L'Hérit. (Liliaceae) wurden 5 neue Homoisoflavone isoliert und ihre Struktur aufgeklärt.     

Effects of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and potassium chloride on the resting potential of the isolated frog nerve

Zusammenfassung Da DMSO da Ruhepotential depolarisiert, verglichen wir seine Wirkung mit der von Kaliumchlorid. Infolge verschieden schneller Depolarisationen und einer jahreszeitlich abhängigen Ruhepotentialänderung durch Kaliumchlorid schliessen wir auf unterschiedliche Wirkungsmechanismen beider Substanzen. DMSO hat ausser einer Kurzzeitwirkung einen länger persistierenden reversiblen Effekt auf die Nervenmembran, der durch nachfolgende kurzwirksame Kaliumchloriddepolarisationen nachgewiesen werden kann.

Developmental characteristics of histamine methyltransferase and phenylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase of rat brain

Summary The specific activity of histamine methyltransferase of rat brain increases rapidly from the 16th until the 25th day of gestation (7 days after birth). The specific activity of phenylethanolamine-N-methyl-transferase shows a rapid incrase during the 1st and the 2nd week after birth, the adult values being obtained by the end of the 2nd week.     

Affinity chromatography of monoamine oxidase

Summary A method is described for the purification of pig liver monoamine oxidase by affinity chromatography, using a colum with covalently bound pargyline.Acknowledgment. The authors wish to thank the University Research Council for financial support.     

Beweis des Steringerüstes von Ouabagenin

Summary Ouabagenin (I) has been degraded stepwise to the known 3-methoxy-17-carbomethoxy-^1,3,5:10-estratriene (XII). Thus the presence of a normal steroid skeleton and the -configuration of the butenolidering at C-17 is proven. The 14-configuration of the hydroxyl at C-14 was also proven. As a result of these and earlier findings, structure I can be definitely assigned to ouabagenin.

Effect of vincristine on the ultrastructure of rat neurohypophysis

Résumé Des hypophyses postérieures de rat ont été incubées en présence de vincristine, substance qui interfère avec le système microtubulaire et provoque la formation d'inclusions cristalloides caractéristiques. L'ultrastructure a révélé ces inclusions dans les fibres nerveuses et les pituicytes. La discussion porte sur les répercussions fonctionnelles que ces altérations morphologiques pourraient entraîner.

Propriétés chitinolytiques du liquide exuvial du ver à soie (Bombyx mori L.)

Summary The authors add further confirmation to the hypothesis of the role played by a chitinase during the process of moulting. By ligaturingBombyx mori-larvae between head and thorax, accumulation of moulting fluid takes place between the larval and nymphal cuticles, swallowing of this fluid being prevented. The chitinolytic properties of this moulting fluid are demonstratedin vitro. The activity of chitinase at different pH is investigated: the optimum pH lying at about 5.4.     

Additional studies on the effects of neonatal thymectomy and lactate dehydrogenase virus infection on mice

Zusammenfassung Die gegebenen Befunde lassen vermuten, dass neonatale Thymektomie und/oder Infektion mit LDH-Virus einen Effekt auf eine Anzahl von Faktoren wie LDH-Plasma-Spiegel, Gewichtserhöhung und Lebensdauer in Mäusen hervorrufen können. Der Virustiter im Plasma ist vom Zeitpunkt der Infektion abhängig.

Morphogenetic effect of precocene I and II onSchistocerca gregaria (Forsk)

Summary 4th instar nymphs ofSchistocerca gregaria exposed to precocene I and II by topical application metamorphosed precociously. The ED₅₀ of both compounds were evaluated and, unexpectedly, precocene I was found to be more active than precocene II. All adultiforms were identical and in an advanced form.Acknowledgments.
