Summary The octapeptide Val⁵-Angiotensin II-Asp¹--amide is split into characteristic fragments by hydrogen peroxide, when complexed with Ni²⁺; this degradation does not occur with the Cu²⁺ complex, presumably because an active ternary peroxo complex cannot be formed.     

Enzymhistochemische Untersuchungen an durstaktivierten neurosekretorischen Zellen der Ratte

Summary In hypothalamic neurosecretory nuclei of rats subject to water withdrawl for 1–14 days, a marked increase in the activities of histochemically detected acid phosphatase, thiamine pyrophosphatase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase is observed. LDH and SDH activities do not change. Two different cell types can be distinguished by means of the acid phosphatase and TPPase reactions.     

Sympathetic influence on cerebral blood volume: Time-dependent effect of decentralization of the superior cervical ganglia in mice

Zusammenfassung Neue Befunde über die Neuronale Regulation der Hirndurchblutung. Durchschneidung der präganglionären Fasern des Hals-Sy. verursachen eine starke Initiale und eine etwas weniger ausgeprägte dauerzunahme der Durchblutung, was durch Unterbechung der innervation und Sensitivierung der Rezeptoren erklärt wird.

A novel exocrine gland inside the thoracic appendages (‘gemmae’) of the queenless antDiacamma australe

Summary In the queenless antDiacamma australe, all workers eclose with a pair of tiny thoracic appendages (gemmae). These are sac-like and exhibit a distinct cuticular sculpturing, with minute pores opening on the outer surface. These pores are connected to glandular cells which completely fill the appendages, and thus an exocrine stignal is likely to be released. We discuss the social context of this signal: only one worker in each colony retains the gemmae.     

Effects of cadmium on the immune system of mice

Summary Chronic oral exposure of mice to Cd⁺⁺ inhibits cell-mediated immunity of delayed type hypersensitivity induced by sheep red blood cells (SRBC). No effect was detected on humoral immune response to SRBC. Spleen cells derived from mice exposed to Cd⁺⁺ showed in vitro enhanced response to T and B cell mitogens. These results demonstrate that Cd⁺⁺ exposure alters the immune system of mice.Dedicated to Prof. Georg Henneberg on the occasion of his 70th anniversary on 12.10.1978.Acknowledgments. Neue Substitutionsreaktionen bei Steroiden

Summary The intramolecular substitution of the angular methyl groups in steroids by attack of O-radicals derived from 6-, 11, and 20-alcohols is discussed. Irrespective of their genesis, these radicals abstract a hydrogen atom from one of the said methyl groups, suitably oriented in-position. The C-radicals thus formed give different products depending on the neighbouring groups.It is shown that 20-hydroxy-18-C-radicals combine with iodine atoms, to give 18-iodides which can befurther substituted through radicals to give potential 18-oxo-compounds in high yield. In the case of 20-cyanohydrines, the intramolecular reaction of the 18-C-radical with the cyano groups gives rise to the new 18-cyano-20-oxo-steroids.With 6- and 11-O-radicalssingle substitution in 19-position predominates, since the steric arrangement of the primary product favours the intramolecular ether formation over a second substitution reaction.A general reaction scheme for these transformations is proposed.

Etude des variations nycthémérales de la filtration glomérulaire chez le rat

Summary Parallel variations in plasma and urine variations of endogenous urea and creatinine level in the rat during 4 consecutive 6-h-long periods permit to evidence urea and creatinine clearance diurnal variations with very significant increase in the 2 nightly periods. The signification of this very large nightly glomerular filtration increase is discussed.     

Circadian rhythm in cerebral blood volume of mouse

Zusammenfassung Mittels I¹³¹ markiertem Human-Serumalbumin wurde das Blutvolumen im Gehirn von Mäusen zu verschiedenen Tageszeiten gemessen und eine circadiane Rhythmik festgestellt. Andauernder Dunkelaufenthalt führt zu erhöhten Werten des Blutvolumens.     

Short adrenergic neurons innervating the female urethra of the cat

Zusammenfassung Die adrenergische Innervation der weiblichen Urethra bei der Katze wird mit Hilfe fluoreszenzmikroskopischer Technik dargestellt. Adrenergische Ganglien in der proximalen Urethra bestreiten den Hauptanteil der urethralen adrenergischen Innervation (kurze Neurone). Ein Drittel der adrenergischen Bahnen stammen aus dem Nervus hypogastricus.
