Susceptibility variants for male-pattern baldness on chromosome 20p11

We carried out a genome-wide association study in 296 individuals with male-pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) and 347 controls. We then investigated the 30 best SNPs in an independent replication sample and found highly significant association for five SNPs on chromosome 20p11 (rs2180439 combined P = 2.7 x 10(-15)). No interaction was detected with the X-chromosomal androgen receptor locus, suggesting that the 20p11 locus has a role in a yet-to-be-identified androgen-independent pathway.     

Metabolism of glycine-1-14C in the normal and in the irradiated rat

Riassunto Gli autori hanno esaminato il comportamento dell'utilizzazione della glicina-1-¹⁴C da parte del fegato di ratti irradiati e la sua incorporazione nelle proteine e nei polipeptidi del fegato e del siero. I risultati ottenuti hanno messo in evidenza un abbassamento dell'utilizzazione della sostanza, con riduzione, rispetto agli animali di controllo non irradiati, della radioattività delle proteine e rispettivamente dei polipeptidi sia epatici che plasmatici.      

Electrolyte content of the cerebral cortex in developing rats after prenatal X-radiation

Zusammenfassung Bei in utero röntgenbestrahlten Rattenembryonen wurden die Elektrolyte im Gehirncortex bestimmt. Während der K-Gehalt unverändert blieb, war derjenige von Na und Cl bei 9 Tage alten Tieren erniedrigt. Zytologische Veränderungen, durch pränatale Bestrahlung verursacht, waren mit diesen Befunden korreliert.
