Cytoplasmic contaminants in Triton X-100 washed rat liver nuclei - a possible way of further purification.

The presence of cytoplasmic contaminants is demonstrated in preparations of rat liver nuclei, even after washing with Triton X-100. They can be removed by incubation at 37 degrees C in a medium of low-salt concentration.     

Effect of clofibrate on the phospholipid biosynthesis in rat liver.

The effect of clofibrate on rat liver phospholipid biosynthesis was studied using 32P as a precursor. Phospholipid classes, levels and specific radioactivity were evaluated. Significant increases in levels of phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine were found and could account for the observed increase in total phospholipids. Specific activity of phosphatidylserine increased and that of phosphatidylethanolamine decreased. This fact suggests that clofibrate seems to alter the systems engaged in the transformation occurring within the different classes of phospholipids but not the de novo biosynthesis.     

Potassium uptake by cold-resistant mouse L cells stored at low temperature

Adaptation of a cultured mouse L cell population to 4 degrees C increased the survival of the cells and induced the uptake of potassium from the medium at this temperature.     

Brain stem projections to the cerebral cortex in the rat

Summary By means of the HRP method it was shown that the entire cerebral cortex, but in greater proportion the frontal and posterior temporo-parietal regions, receive fibres from the dorsal and medial raphe nuclei and from the locus coeruleus. In contrast, the pars compacta substantiae nigrae and the tegmental area send projections to the motor and cingular areas respectively.     

Changes in the distensibility of the cat aortic arch induced by noradrenaline

Summary In the isolated preparation of the aortic arch of the cat, noradrenaline (NA) reduced at low pre-loads, and increased at high pre-loads, the arterial wall distensibility. For each dose of NA, the changes were directly related to the pressure level in the system.     

Nachweis der Bisulfit-Addukte (α-Oxysulfonsäuren) von Carbonylverbindungen in den mit SO2 behandelten Erbsenkeimlingen

Summary The intoxication of 15-day-old green pea seedlings with 1% gaseous SO₂ causes an important concentration fall of some free ketoacids (pyruvic, oxalacetic, -ketoglutaric) and of glyceraldehyde in the roots and shoots. This fall is a consequence of the reaction of these carbonyl compounds with SO₂ in the plant tissue under the formation of bisulphite adducts (-hydroxysulfonic acids), which have been chemically proved and quantitatively estimated.     

Potentiation of the biological activities of daunomycin and adriamycin by ascorbic acid and dimethylsulfoxide

Summary L-Ascorbic acid (0.57 mM) and dimethylsulfoxide (14.1 mM) were found to potentiate four times the antibacterial activities of daunomycin and adriamycin in theStaphylococcus aureus test. Effect of a fraction of bovine hypothalamic extract on the release of TSH by rat adenohypophysesin vitro

Zusammenfassung Die elektrophoretisch isolierte Franktion des hypothalamischen Extraktes erhöhtin vitro die Sekretion des thyreotropen Hormons aus der Adenohypophyse der Ratte in der Krebs-Phosphat-Ringerlösung mit 300 mg% Glukose. Die Fraktion selbst besitzt keine TSH-Wirkung.     

A contribution on the effect of noradrenaline on heat production in mice

Zusammenfassung Bei ausgewachsenen Mäusen wurde nach i.p. Noradrenalininjektion die Steigerung der O₂-Aufnahme über den Grundumsatz in der Thermoneutralzone verfolgt. Nach einer Dosis von 1,6 mg/kg wurde ein bedeutender Unterschied (p < 0,05) der O₂-Aufnahmesteigerung zwischen der Gruppe normaler (155%) und normaler, auf 17°C adaptierter Mäuse (165%) und der Gruppe haarloser Mäuse (195%) festgestellt.
