Inter omental-cerebral vascularization induced by omental graft to the rat brain

Summary The omentum of 13 rats were removed from the abdomen and placed directly on the brain. 5–14 days later the omentum and the underlying brain were joined by numerous vascular anastomoses in 9 rats. The purpose of this work was to study the use of omentum to establish extracranial vascularization of the brain.Supported by funds from Grant RR 514 from the Jefferson Medical College General Research Fund.     

Etude ultrastructurale de la transformation du corps élémentaire en corps initial chez lesRickettsiella

Summary An intermediate stage between the elementary and the initial bodies of theRickettsiella genus is defined as the beginning of an intracellular cycle. It is characterized by several structural changes in the dense elementary body: the cytoplasm becomes less electron-dense; thus, the nucleoid and the ribosomes are visible. The inner layer of the cell-wall becomes progressively clearer and the trilamellar structure of the inner and outer membranes appears distinctly. Preinitial body is proposed as name of this stage of development.     

Culture of presumptive epithelial cells from jejunal mucosa of axenic rats

Summary Strains of presumptive epithelial and fibroblast cells were prepared from the jejunal mucosa of axenic rats. Cells were cultured on collagen gels, in highly enriched media supplemented with homologous sera and hormones, and were maintained for more than 7 weeks.Supported by the Medical Research Council (Canada). Antidiuretic and thermogenic effects of intracerebroventricular prostaglandin H2 in ethanol-anaesthetized rats

Summary When PGH₂ was administered intracerebroventricularly at doses of 5 and 15 nmoles in ethanol-anaesthetized rats, alcohol diuresis was inhibited and rectal temperature, blood pressure and heart rate were all significantly increased.     

Potassium transfer from brain to blood during sustained hyponatraemia in the newborn calf

Summary The effect of dilutional hyponatraemia on cerebral blood flow and oxygen consumption, and net transfer of K⁺ to the circulation from brain tissue drained by the sagittal sinus was investigated in anaesthetized calves. Urease inhibition by hydroxamic acids

Summary Ureases from jack beans andRhodototorula pilimanae were observed to be inhibited by primary hydroxamic acids but were not inhibited by acyclic-secondary (N-alkyl) hydroxamic acids.This project was supported by a Lamar University organized research grant.     

Increase in in vivo (3H) spiperone binding in the rat hippocampal formation and striatum after repeated treatment with haloperidol

Summary An increase in in vivo (³H) spiperone binding was observed in rat hippocampal formation and striatum after repeated treatment with haloperidol. This suggests that in hippocampus as well as in striatum prolonged blockade of dopaminergic transmission by a neuroleptic agent results in the development of a supersensitivity of the dopamine receptors.Acknowledgments.
