A prostaglandin-like activity in small intestine and postirradiation gastrointestinal syndrome

Summary A correlation between the postirradiation increase of the small intestine motility and the prostaglandin-like activity in this organ during gastrointestinal syndrome was observed. Indomethacin decreased the elevated motility of intestine and reduced the prostaglandin-like activity in this syndrome.Acknowledgments. The work was supported by the Polish Academy of Sciences.     

The effects of physostigmine on the oxygen uptake in rat brain tissue

Summary Physostigmine in a dose of 0.1 mg/kg i.v. expressly stimulated the oxygen uptake in the rat cerebral cortex. This effect was blocked by propranolol and seems be mediated by catecholamines. Since atropine also antagonized the stimulant effect of physostigmine, it appears that the action of physostigmine is primarily cholinergic and that the adrenergic effect is a secondary phenomenon. Structure specificity of some immunoadjuvant synthetic glycopeptides

Summary The immunoadjuvant activity of muramyl dipeptide seems to be critically dependent on the type of substitution of the -carboxyl group of the D-isoglutamine residue. Moreover the nonapeptide L-Ala-D-isoGlu-L-Lys-D-Ala-(Gly)₅-OME also shows a definite effect.     

Increase in cystathionine β-synthase activity in the liver of rats treated withl-ethionine

Résumé Une seule injection d'éthionine (400 mg/kg) provoque une augmentation significative de l'activité de la cystathionine -synthase du foie de rat. La méthionine empêche l'effect de l'éthionine, tandis que l'actinomycine D, le cycloheximide, la méthionine sulfoximine, la méthionine sulfona et l'ATP ne le modifient pas. In vitro, l'éthionine n'a aucune influence sur l'activité de la cystathionine synthase hépatique.

Effect of X-537A on the phosphorylated protein in sarcoplasmic reticulum vesicles

Summary The effect of the antibiotic X-537A on the phosphorylated ATPase (EP) was investigated. The results show that X-537A depresses the level of EP which is dependent on the Ca²⁺ gradient, while the Ca²⁺-independent EP is not affected. Acknowledgments. 聚焦光束钎焊接头的力学性能及变形行为

研究了光束钎焊获得的对接和搭接钎焊接头的力学性能及其在拉伸载荷作用下的变形行为。光束钎焊对接接头的断裂强度σb、相对延伸率δ、断面收缩率ψ均低于被钎焊母材。同质接头的弹性极限σ0.01、屈服极限σ0.2与母材相当，而异质接头的σ0.01、σ0.2值仅取决于低屈服极限的母材，与高屈服极限的母材无关。对接接头在拉伸载荷作用下的变形是非均匀的，同质接头中的钎缝和近缝区的塑性变形量最小，而异质接头中屈服极限较高的母材一侧几乎无塑性变形。搭接接头在拉伸载荷作用下下会产生“折弯效应”，折弯程度随被钎焊母材屈服极限的增加而减小。对接接头的断裂是由纯拉应力导致的，而搭接接头的断裂是剪应力和拉应力综合作用的结果。     

Lightning activity on the central Tibetan Plateau and its response to convective available potential energy

Lightning flash activities on the central Tibetan Plateau have been studied by using the satellite-based Lightning Imaging Sensor(LIS)database from January 1998 to July 2002.The lightning activity shows a clear diurnal variation on the central Plateau.The peak lightning activity appears at about 17:00 which is 3 h earlier than that in Jingxhou,Hubei in the same latitude belt nearby,indicating that the lightning activity is a sensitive indicator of solar heating on the Plateau.The lightning discharge is weaker on the Plateau than Jingzhou.Hubei and other low-altitude continental regions because of the lower convective available potential energy(CAPE)on the Plateau.The CAPE on the Plateau is 12 times lower than that in Jingzhou,Hubei,and 20 times lower than that in the sea-level region,such as Guangzhou and Florida.However,the sensitivity of lightning activity to CAPE changes on the Plateau is up to 30 times more sensitive than other prominent low-altitude regions.
