Summary The effects of 2 of a series of bicyclic phosphorous esters, the ethyl (EPTBO) and isopropyl (IPTBO) compounds, were compared with those of the GABA antagonists, picrotoxin and bicuculline, on presynaptic inhibition in the rat cuneate nucleus. Both EPTBO and IPTBO were found to be effective, reversible antagonists of presynaptic inhibition, with IPTBO approximately 10 times more potent than EPTBO and equipotent with bicuculline, EPTBO equipotent with picrotoxin. The authors are grateful to Dr J. F. Collins, Department of Chemistry, Sir John Cass School of Science and Technology, 31 Jewry Street, London, for the gift of bicyclic phosphorous esters. 相似文献

An important and perhaps critical clue to the mechanism driving the explosion of massive stars as supernovae is provided by the accumulating evidence for asymmetry in the explosion. Indirect evidence comes from high pulsar velocities, associations of supernovae with long-soft gamma-ray bursts, and asymmetries in late-time emission-line profiles. Spectropolarimetry provides a direct probe of young supernova geometry, with higher polarization generally indicating a greater departure from spherical symmetry. Large polarizations have been measured for 'stripped-envelope' (that is, type Ic; ref. 7) supernovae, which confirms their non-spherical morphology; but the explosions of massive stars with intact hydrogen envelopes (type II-P supernovae) have shown only weak polarizations at the early times observed. Here we report multi-epoch spectropolarimetry of a classic type II-P supernova that reveals the abrupt appearance of significant polarization when the inner core is first exposed in the thinning ejecta (approximately 90 days after explosion). We infer a departure from spherical symmetry of at least 30 per cent for the inner ejecta. Combined with earlier results, this suggests that a strongly non-spherical explosion may be a generic feature of core-collapse supernovae of all types, where the asphericity in type II-P supernovae is cloaked at early times by the massive, opaque, hydrogen envelope. 相似文献

Mouse models of DNA repair deficiency are useful tools for determining susceptibility to disease. Cancer predisposition and
premature aging are commonly impacted by deficiencies in DNA repair, presumably as a function of reduced genomic fitness.
In this review, a comprehensive analysis of all DNA repair mutant mouse models has been completed in order to assess the importance
of haploinsufficiency for these genes. This analysis brings to light a clear role for haploinsufficiency in disease predisposition.
Unfortunately, much of the data on heterozygous models are buried or underinvestigated. In light of a better understanding
that the role of DNA repair haploinsufficiency may play in penetrance of other oncogenic or disease causing factors, it may
be in the interest of human health and disease prevention to further investigate the phenotypes in many of these mouse models. 相似文献

Labrador retrievers are the most common dog breed in the world, with over 200,000 new kennel club registrations per year. The syndrome of exercise-induced collapse (EIC) in this breed is manifested by muscle weakness, incoordination and life-threatening collapse after intense exercise. Using a genome-wide microsatellite marker scan for linkage in pedigrees, we mapped the EIC locus to canine chromosome 9. We then used SNP association and haplotype analysis to fine map the locus, and identified a mutation in the dynamin 1 gene (DNM1) that causes an R256L substitution in a highly conserved region of the protein. This first documented mammalian DNM1 mutation is present at a high frequency in the breed and is a compelling candidate causal mutation for EIC, as the dynamin 1 protein has an essential role in neurotransmission and synaptic vesicle endocytosis. 相似文献
