Induced recovery of defective membrane expression of a CC chemokine receptor 5 mutant by phytohemagglutinin

CC chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) is a member of the G-protein-coupled receptor superfamily. It plays an important role in macrophage tropic human immunodeficiency virus-1 entry and in some inflammatory reactions. CCR5-893(–) is a single-nucleotide deletion that results in complete truncation of the C tail of the gene product. We detected CCR5-893(–) in a sample of patients infected with non-tuberculosis mycobacteria and found that it was maintained heterozygously with a frequency of 2%. There is no association between this mutation and any immunodeficiency. Membrane expression of CCR5-893(–) was substantially reduced compared to the wild type, but this defective surface presentation recovered greatly recovered in the presence of 2 mg l-1 phytohemagglutinin (PHA). However, PHA inducement did not affect the total intracellular expression of CCR5-893(–) or wild-type CCR5. Thus we suggest there exist some PHA-induced factor(s) that could mediate the presentation of truncated CCR5.Received 23 July 2003; accepted 18 August 2003

“温州模式”从形成到发展,和温州民俗文化有着密不可分的关联,温州民俗是历代温州人民所创造、享用并传承的文化,它的“约定俗成”,对人们的思想以及生产、生活起着长期的潜移默化,甚至是不可抗拒和不可估量的影响,从精神因素中去探索,是基于全体温州人民对优良民族传统精神的发扬,如在创造“温州模式”中温州人所表现的勤劳耐苦精神,走南闯北艰苦创业精神,以及多次超前实践中表现的不屈不挠的顽强性格和“敢为天下先”的精神等,都和几千年温州民俗文化对它们的孕育、影响有关,我们从“温州模式”的发展中,可以清晰地找到它们的轨迹,这正是温州民俗文化精神的延续和发扬光大。     

Mutations in the polyglutamine binding protein 1 gene cause X-linked mental retardation

We found mutations in the gene PQBP1 in 5 of 29 families with nonsyndromic (MRX) and syndromic (MRXS) forms of X-linked mental retardation (XLMR). Clinical features in affected males include mental retardation, microcephaly, short stature, spastic paraplegia and midline defects. PQBP1 has previously been implicated in the pathogenesis of polyglutamine expansion diseases. Our findings link this gene to XLMR and shed more light on the pathogenesis of this common disorder.     

Signal frequency based self－tuning fuzzy controller for semi－active suspension system

A new kind of fuzzy control scheme, based on the identification of the signal‘ s main frequency and the behavior of the ER damper, is proposed to control the semi-active suspension system. This method ad-justs the fuzzy controller to achieve the best isolation effect by analyzing the main frequency‘ s characters and inspecting the change of system parameters. The input of the fuzzy controller is the main frequency and the op-timal damping ratio is the output. Simulation results indicated that the proposed control method is very effec-tive in isolating the vibration.

利用电路仿真软件PSPICE8.0中正弦稳态电路的数值输出功能虚拟三相电路的实验,解决了传统实验中设备笨重老旧、特别是安全性差,因而只能"忍痛割爱"的问题.解决了传统实验中负载单一、测量数据不全的问题.为更多的不易完成的传统实验开辟了一条新路.     

Ultraviolet photoluminescence of porous anodic alumina films

Photoluminescence (PL) properties of porous anodic alumina (PAA) films prepared by using electrochemical anodization technique in a mixed solution of oxalic and sulfuric acid have been investigated. The PAA films have an intensive ultraviolet PL emission around 350 nm, of which a possible PL mechanism has been proposed. It was found that the incorporated oxalic ions, which could transform into PL centers and exist in the PAA films, are responsible for this ultraviolet PL emission.     

Role of FGF-2／FGFR signaling pathway in cancer and its signification in breast cancer

Fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) is a member of a large family of proteins that bind heparin and heparan sulfate and modulate the function of a wide range of cell types. It has been proved that FGF-2 stimulates the growth and development of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) that contribute to the pathogenesis of several diseases (i.e. cancer, atherosclerosis). However, many of the biological activities of FGF-2 have been found to depend on its receptor抯 intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity and second messengers such as the mitogen activated protein kinases. This review will focus on the mechanism of FGF-2/FGFR induced signaling pathway in tumor and human breast cancer.
