The effect of age and pinealectomy on the hypertension produced by adrenal regeneration

Zusammenfassung Nach Pinealektomie unterbleibt eine Hypertonie (Skelton), falls einseitige Nephrektomie und Adrenektomie mit Enukleation der übrigen Nebenniere bei jungen Ratten durchgeführt wurde. Wird die experimentelle, Hypertonie verursachende Operation bei adulten Tieren praktiziert, so bleibt Pinealektomie ohne jeden Effekt.

Zusammenfassung In der BasidiomyceteOudemansiella mucida (Schr. ex Fr.) Höhnel wurde eine NADH₂-Dichlorophenolindophenol-Dehydrogenase und eine NADH₂-Menadion-Triphenyltetrazoliumchlorid-Dehydrogenase gefunden. Beide Enzyme unterscheiden sich durch ihre pH-Abhängigkeit, Aktivität und Eluierbarkeit.     

Cardiac pressoreceptors and peripheral resistance

Summary The results obtained show that the pressoreceptors, probably ubicated in the left ventricle of the rat, respond to the distention with vasodilatation. The afferent tract of this reflex is in the vagus nerve and the efferent one is in the sympathetic nervous system. The probable function of this reflex is discussed.     

Effect of glucocorticoids on the appearance of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase activity in primary cultures of adult rat hepatocytes

Primary cultures of adult rat liver parenchymal cells showed a progressive rise of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) activity (E.C. 2.3.2.2) after the first 5 days of culture. The presence of dexamethasone and other synthetic glucocorticoids in the culture medium partially prevented this increase.     

Alteration of cholesterol synthesis in rat liver as induced by 4-methyl-5-hydroxy valeric acid

Summary The rate of cholesterogenesis in rat liver, measured by the incorporation of labelled acetate or mevalonate into cholesterol, was significantly supressed by the use of 4-methyl-5-hydroxy valeric acid sodium salt. This effect cannot be explained by changes in HMG CoA reductase activity.

Adaptation to intermittent fasting as a factor modifying the radiation resistance of mice

Summary Mice adapted to intermittent food intake (24 h fasting:24 h feeding) for 2–3 weeks exhibit a higher resistance to whole-body gamma irradiation. This is manifested by increased survival of animals and a more effective recovery of blood leukocyte counts.
