Zusammenfassung Das zerebrale Serotonin unterliegt im Verlaufe eines emotionellen Stress bedeutenden quantitativen Veränderungen. Bei Wildhasen, welche 14 Tage lang Schreckzeichen ausgesetzt waren, vermehrte sich die Menge des Serotonins und erreichte ihr Maximum am 7. Tag. Nachher sinkt die Menge unter den Normalwert, um am Ende der zweiten Woche wieder anzusteigen, wobei sie unter dem Normalwert bleibt.     

Présence d'uraninite dans les minéraux accessoires du granite de baveno

Summary Microscopic crystals of uraninite are found in the accessories of the Baveno granite by the nuclear photographic emulsion technique. The uraninite is believed to be a primary mineral of the granite, its concentration in the sample is less than 1 p.p.m. but it contributes about 10% of the total activity.     

Sur l'apparition d'organes variés dans l'ectoblaste, à la suite de la centrifugation de la blastula et de la gastrula chez les Amphibiens

Summary The centrifugation of the Amphibia blastula or gastrula produces in the ectoblastic area the appearance of complexes of ecto- and mesoblastic organs. Experiments of explantations and cultivationin vitro and also of grafts on a normal embryo demonstrate that those very abnormal secundary embryos are formed without any intervention of the normal organizer. The ectoblastic cells that undergo this increase of morphogenetic potential are characterized by a great concentration of ribonucleic acid in their cytoplasm (this part of work in collaboration withJ. Brachet). Those secundary embryos vary greatly in their frequence, their nature, and their location, depending on the stage in which the centrifugation was done. It is supposed that the nature of the organs formed is dependent on the degree of potency attained by the ectoblast at the time when the reaction arises that is produced by the cellular trauma.     

Etude photophysique de la ptérobiline

Summary The first results of a photophysical study on pterobilin (biliverdin IX , a Lepidopter blue bile pigment) are presented. From the absorption and fluorescence spectra, it is deduced that the low yield of fluorescence indicates a desactivation of the excited singlet state occurring mainly by a non-radiative process. Analyses of the chemical compounds formed after irradiation of pterobilin in methanol show that it is rearranged into a series of new blue pigments among which phorcabilin and sarpedobilin (the two neobiliverdins IX isolated from Lepidopters) have been identified.

Zusammenfassung Mit Hilfe derWarburg-Methode wird die Esterasewirkung von Kobragift geprüft. Das Ferment wirkt nicht nur auf Acetylcholin, sondern auch auf verschiedene andere Ester mit kleinerem Molekulargewicht, die die Acetylgruppe enthalten. Es ist demnach nicht als Cholinesterase, sondern als Acetylase zu bezeichnen. Myristicylcholin beeinflußt die Cholinesterase im Blutserum des Hundes nicht, hemmt dagegen die Acetylase im Kobragift.     

Sur le rôle de la sélection sexuellen dans l'évolution

Zusammenfassung Von Darwins Theorie der geschlechtlichen Zuchtwahl ausgehend werden einige Resultate experimenteller Forschung dargestellt, die auf neue Aspekte dieser Frage hinweisen. Es wird der qualitative Unterschied zwischen interspezifischer und intraspezifischer geschlechtlicher Zuchtwahl aufgezeigt. Die erstere hindert den Genaustausch zwischen den Arten, die letztere dagegen führt zu einem optimalen Genaustausch innerhalb einer Art. Es werden die Rolle der Weibchen und Männchen, der selektive Wert des Wildtypus verglichen mit Mutanten und die genetische Basis der Aktivität der Männchen diskutiert.

Sur les liens de la phosphatase alcaline avec les nucléoprotéides du noyau cellulaire et des granules cytoplasmiques

Summary The thymonucleic acid of the cell nucleus and the ribonucleic acid of the cytoplasmic granules are both included in very similar complexes. Treated by a 0.6 M solution of KCl these complexes separate in two fractions, one comprising thymo or ribonucleoproteid, the other characterized by its insolubility and its high content in alcaline phosphatase.     

Les effets de l'autotransplantation préportale de la thyroïde chez la Rate

Zusammenfassung 90 Tage nach einer in der Gegend der Pfortader erfolgten Autotransplantation der Schilddrüse bei weiblichen Albinoratten zeigt die histologische Untersuchung der Transplantate alle Zeichen einer gesteigerten Tätigkeit. Dem entgegengesetzt befinden sich Nebenniere, Leber und Hypophysis in dem als Folge der Schilddrüsenextirpation beschriebenen Zustand. Dieser scheinbare Widerspruch stützt die Annahme einer Inaktivierung des Schilddrüsenhormons durch die Leber.

Summary Two possible mechanisms for oxidative phosphorylation are suggested, based on participation of quinones in the process.Both of them postulate the 1–4 addition of inorganic phosphate on a reactive quinone isomer (the quinone-methide II) without exchange of the quinone oxygen atoms. They also account for the P₁-¹⁸OH₂ exchange observed during oxidative phosphorylation.

Détection cytochimique de l'acide ribonucléique dans les chromosphères pré- et post-méiotiques des sporanges de résistance d'Allomyces

Summary Premeiotic chromospheres in the immature resistant sporangia (RS) ofAllomyces lose their basophily after treatment with trichloracetic acid, perchloric acid or ribonuclease. Postmeiotic chromospheres in the mature RS, becoming the nuclear caps of the ‘reduced’ zoospores, do not stain with toluidine blue or pyronine after ribonuclease digestion. It is concluded that, as gametic and zoosporic nuclear caps, pre- and postmeiotic chromospheres are transitory cytoplasmic organites rich in RNA.

Summary In intact guinea-pigs fed with glucose solutions of different concentrations, the main limiting factor of absorption is not the gastric emptying but the hyperglycaemia.     

Sur l'interaction de la Protamine avec des protéines sériques

Summary We noticed the formation of a precipitate on adding salmine to dilute aqueous protein solution at pH 6–7. Human and bovine serum albumin, human -globulin, and the perchloro- and sulfosalicylosoluble mucoides do not precipitate in this condition. - and -lipoproteins prepared by floatation and by Sandor's technique gave S-shaped nephelometric titration curves, as did haptoglobin, a mixture of the types Hp II-Hp II and Hp II-Hp I. In sera incubated 24 h at 37°C with protamin, the dextran sulphate test and the cetavlon test show a diminished value for -lipo- and -glucoprotein. Lipoprotein degradation is probably enzymatic in nature.

Disparition de la 5-hydroxytryptamine dans les granulations des glandes de la peau deDiscoglossus pictus et deRana temporaria après injection de réserpine

Summary 30 min after an intraperitoneal injection of reserpine (5 or 10 mg/kg) in the frog (Rana temporaria) and in the toad (Discoglossus pictus), a substance which has the properties of 5-hydroxytryptamine (argentaffine reaction, azoreaction, indoreaction and fluorescence in U.V. after formaldehyde) disappears from the skin glands; the histochemical reactions are more positive again 1 1/2 to 2 h after the injection of reserpine.
