Changes of the level of proteinase inhibitors in rat plasma during turpentine-induced inflammation

Summary The levels of rat plasma -macroglobulins, -cysteine proteinase inhibitor, haptoglobin and antipapain activity were studied during the acute-phase reaction after an injection of -pinen. An increase in concentration of all the compounds examined was observed.

Summary Prolonged sleep deprivation elicits a significant elevation of the plasma level of free tryptophan which appears to be involved in increased excretion of 5-HIAA during this state through enhanced 5-HT synthesis.     

Changes in plasma levels of metabolites during long-term fasting in the goose]

In fed geese, plasma levels of glucose and alanine were 1.9 g.l-1 and 560 mumol.l-1, respectively. During a long fast (40 days), plasma glucose and alanine were maintained at a high level (1.5-1.8 g.l-1 and 370-540 mumol.l-1, respectively). Plasma level of acetoacetate was very low (40 mumol.l-1); by contrast, plasma level of beta hydroxybutyrate reached very high values (20 mmol.l-1) after about 20 days of fasting, then it decreased. Plasma levels of lactate and pyruvate decreased along the course of the fast, from 2 500 to 2 000 mumol.l-1 and 220 to 170 mumol.l-1, respectively.

Zusammenfassung Bei Ratten wurde der Gehalt an Desoxyribonukleinsäure und Ribonukleinsäure von der Geburt bis zum 29. Lebenstag verfolgt. Mit Beginn des Sehens erhöht sich der gesamte Nukleinsäuregehalt des Organismus; vorübergehend zeigt sich auch ein prozentualer Anstieg. Diese Erhöhung des Nukleinsäuregehaltes wird als Folge der vermehrten Sekretion der durch den Lichtreiz stimulierten Hypophyse erklärt.     

Basal plasma corticosterone level after bilateral selective lesions of the olfactory pathways in the rat

In comparison to control rats, basal plasma corticosterone level and lactacidemia significantly increased in rats submitted to a bilateral lesion of the lateral olfactory tract and/or the anterior branch of the anterior commissure. Only the lesion of the anterior branch of the anterior commissure induced hyperglycemia; that of the lateral olfactory tract exerted an opposite effect.     

Changes in the level of alpha1-macroglobulin in rats during Masugi nephritis]

Using chromatographic technique on "Sephadex G 200" associated to immunologic qualitative and quantitative techniques, the authors showed that the alpha1-macroglobulin is present in normal Rat urines. This protein is also present in urines obtained during the Masugi nephritis. The alpha1-macroglobulin concentration observed in the different urine samples is unrelated to the total proteinuria evolution. The results given allow us to discuss the mechanisms of the glomerular filtration.

Zusammenfassung Menschenplasma enthält ein Eiweiss, welches sämtliche Blutgefässe in vitro einengt, jedoch in vivo Arterienerweiterung zu veranlassen scheint. Das Plasmaniveau von Frauen ist höher als das von Männern. Während der Schwangerschaft fällt es ab und kehrt postpartum zu dem Ausgangspunkt der Kontrollen zurück, oder es steigt sogar über diesen Ausgangspunkt hinaus.     

Changes in cAMP concentration in the rat preoptic area during synchronized and desynchronized sleep

cAMP concentration was found to be significantly lower during desynchronized sleep than during synchronized sleep in the preoptic area of rats kept at normal laboratory temperature. No significant changes in cerebral cortex cAMP concentration were observed in the same experimental conditions.

Changes in plasma enzyme concentrations in response to blood substitution with perfluorocarbon emulsion in the conscious rat

The effects of near total blood replacement with the proprietary perfluorocarbon (PFC)-based emulsion, Fluosol-DA 20%, on plasma concentrations of 2 enzymes, lactate dehydrogeanse (LDH) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), have been examined in conscious, chronically catheterized rats. A pronounced fall in both plasma LDH (p less than 0.05) an ALP (p less than 0.01) occurred in response to exchange-transfusion. However, at 6 h following blood replacement, plasma concentrations of both enzymes had risen to values significantly greater than those measured immediately before perfusion. The observed changes in plasma LDH and ALP after blood replacement with Fluosol-DA indicated alterations in normal functioning of tissues from which these enzymes originate.

The isolated adrenal cell method for bioassay of ACTH was employed in order to determine the ACTH content of the hypophysis of the rat foetus, in late pregnancy. The ACTH concentration decreases between 17 days 8 h and 17 days 15 h, then it increases regularly until the term. This evolution is correlated with the change in the fluorescence intensity of the corticotrophs and with the modification of the adrenocortical activity.

A low-molecular-weight proteinase inhibitor was isolated from human plasma on the basis of its papain-inhibiting capacity. The isolated fraction demonstrated inhibitory activity against papain and trypsin activity and the molecular weight was estimated to be approximately 3200 by gel-filtration.
