A DYNAMIC OPTIMAL ADVERTISING MODEL FOR NEW PRODUCTS

Many dynamic optimal control models for advertising make efforts to solve the problem of determining optimal advertising expenditures and other variables of interest over time for a firm or several competing firms,However,after analyzing the extant literature,one can find that few dynamic optimal advertising models available consider the problem within the product diffusion framework.Furthermore,the established models involving product diffusion are inspired by the Bass model,which has been out of date.This paper poses a dynamic optimal advertising model for new products,which considers the product diffusion based on the relative newly developed generalized version of the Bass model.In this paper,the optimal control model is used to derive the optimal advertising expenditure policy,which gives some implications to advertising practice.     

ASYMPTOTIC PROPERTY OF THE TIME-DEPENDENT SOLUTION OF A RELIABILITY MODEL

We discuss a transfer line consisting of a reliable machine, an unreliable machine and a storage buffer. This transfer line can be described by a group of partial differential equations with integral boundary conditions. First we show that the operator corresponding to these equations generates a positive contraction C0-semigroup T(t), and prove that T(t) is a quasi-compact operator. Next we verify that 0 is an eigenvalue of this operator and its adjoint operator with geometric multiplicity one. Last, by using the above results we obtain that the time-dependent solution of these equations converges strongly to their steady-state solution.

A NEW CHARACTERIZATION OF NBU CLASS OF LIFE DISTRIBUTIONS WITH APPLICATION

Assume an unreliable workstation performing jobs with a random service time, namely, it occasionally breaks down because of unexpected interruptions. As an interruption really occurs, the station is instantaneously repaired and the uncompleted job is restarted again from the beginning till a job is completed without being interrupted. The total service time is shown to be NBU if and only if the total time it takes to finish each job with interruptions is stochastically larger than that without them, irrespective of when and how the breakdowns occur. As an application, a nonparametric procedure is developed to test for the strict NBU property of the service time. Finally, some numerical simulations are presented as well.     

MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING WITH A CKLASS OF NON－SMOOTH FUNCTIONS

This is a continuation of a recent work(J.Dutta)on a class of non-smooth functions and their subdifferentials.In this note,necessary optimality conditions are derived for the inequality constrained mathematical programming problems involving such non-smooth functions by employing Gordan‘s Alternative Theorem.This new approach is simpler than the earlier work of Yang and Craven.Mond-Weir type duality theorems are also obtained.

EXISTENCE OF 0-1 UNIVERSAL MINIMAL TOTAL DOMINATING FUNCTIONS

In this paper, we study the existence of 0-1 universal minimal total dominating functions in a graph. We establish a formulation of linear inequalities to characterize universal minimal total dominating functions and show that for a kind of graphs whose adjacent matrices are balanced, the existence of universal minimal total dominating functions coincides with that of 0-1 ones. It is also proved that for general graphs, the problem of testing the existence of 0-1 universal minimal total dominating functions is NP-hard.
