Ectopic human chorionic gonadotropin in breast carcinoma.

Immunoreactive human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) was found in 9 of 65 surgically removed malignant breast tumors. Concentrations ranged from 5 to greater than 500 mIU hCG/g tumor. hCG was measured by a beta-chain specific readiommunoassay. In further study of these specimens, an immunoperoxidase staining technique was used to stain for hCG in formalin-fixed sections. The hCG was shown to be localized within the cytoplasm and on the surface of the malignant cells.     

Demonstration and evolution of chorionic gonadotropin in ewes]

Occurrence of ovine Chorionic Gonadotropin (oCG) is demonstrated in placenta and amniotic fluid with the use of a radioreceptor assay (corpus luteum membranes) in ewes. Identification of oCG is possible as early as 15th day of pregnancy. It should be secreted at a constant rate, and its maximum concentration is recorded on the 130th day. This hormonal factor might be one of the major components accountable for high progesteronemia observed during the 100 last days of pregnancy.     

Desensitization by human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG): demonstration of a negative control of gonadotropin receptors by hCG at the level of testicular Leydig cells]

A single injection of hCG (500 IU) to intact and hypophysectomized prepubertal rat increases plasma testosterone levels and decreases hCG receptors in the testicular Leydig cells for 4 to 5 days. In intact animals testosterone exhibit a rapid increase within hours and a delayed paradoxical increase between 60 and 96 hours. In hypophysectomized animals the first peak is not present. In both intact and hypophysectomized rats hCG receptors are almost undetectable between 10 and 96 hours following hCG injection. Since receptor occupancy cannot account for this phenomenon it is concluded that hCG is exerting a negative control on its own receptors.     

Stimulation of human chorionic gonadotropin and progesterone secretion by tumor promoters,phorbol ester and teleocidin B,in cultured choriocarcinoma cells

Summary Both 12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-1-acetate and teleocidin B stimulated the secretion of human chorionic gonadotropin by cultured choriocarcinoma cells. These tumor promoters also stimulated production of progesterone in the cells. However, the 2 tumor promoters did not exert a marked effect on the cellular binding of epidermal growth factor that also had a stimulatory effect on production of these hormones.

Zusammenfassung Gonadotropin, durch Fällung mit Aceton und Ammoniumsulfat aus menschlicher Placenta (HPG) isoliert und durch Chromatographie an CM- und FEA-Cellulose sowie durch Gelfiltration an Sephadex G-100 gereinigt, ergab Fraktionen, die in hoher Dosis bei jungen Mäusen Blutungen im Ovar hervorriefen, was zeigt, dass GPH eine FSH-ähnliche Wirkung bewirkt.

Radioisotopic studies of human chorionic gonadotrophin in the mouse ovary.

The tissue localization of 125I-HCG was studied in intact mice. 125I-HCG concentrated in the thecal and interstitial tissues of the ovary. Differential uptake occurred in the corpora lutea which was dependent on the age and vascularization of the luteal body.     

Effect of the vehicle in the bioassay of human chorionic gonadotrophin

The relationship between human chorionic somato-mammotropine hormone and thyrostimuline in biological and radioimmunological assays

Résumé Les auteurs montrent qu'il n'existe pas d'inter-férences et de réaction croisée entre la thyréostimuline et l'hormone placentaire, la HCSM (human chorionic somato-mammotropine hormone) lors des déterminations respectives de ces hormones par test radioimmunologique. L'HCSM n'est donc pas responsable de l'augmentation de la TSH plasmatique observée au cours de la grossesse.     

Sequence comparison of human pituitary growth hormone,human chorionic somatomammotropin and ovine pituitary lactogenic hormone

Zusammenfassung Ein Vergleich der Aminosäuresequenzen von menschlichen Wachstumshormonen und menschlichem Chorion-Somatomammotropin mit denjenigen von Prolactin zeigt, dass 26% des Rückstandes in allen drei Molekülen die gleiche Position hatten mit zusätzlichen 34% als möglichen Ersatz. Alle drei Hormone scheinen einen gleichen Ursprung zu haben.     

Serum tyrosinase in human lung carcinoma

Summary Compared to normal humans, lung carcinoma patients show increased tyrosinase activity. 7 serum enzymic fractions or carriers were present in the diseased state. Further, serum tyrosinase inhibitory factors generally were decreased in lung carcinoma patients compared to normal individuals.This investigation was supported by NIH grants CA-16563-01 and CA-16563-02 from National Cancer Institute.
