Changes in free amino acid level due to physical and chemical agents in ageing Drosophila.

The effects of gamma rays and caffeine on total free amino acids were assessed in unirradiated and irradiated ageing Drosophila. As age advances, there is a rise in the quantity of free amino acids in untreated males and females. Gamma rays and caffeine strongly reduce the level of free amino acids in both the sexes.     

Changes in the free amino acid pattern of haemolymph of the common indian scorpionPalamnaeus bengalensis during moulting

Summary Haemolymph ofPalamnaeus bengalensis contains normally 12 and during moulting up to 15 free amino acids, being in maximal number at the end of ecdysis. Aminoacidaemia is most pronounced during the pharate stage. Tyrosine appeared for tanning of the cuticle. Taurine and methionine were not present.Acknowledgment. The author is thankful to Dr.S. C. The plasma level of some amino acids and physical and mental fatigue

Tryptophan is converted to 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in the brain and evidence is presented that an increase in the concentration of 5-HT can result in physical and mental fatigue during prolonged exercise. The entry of tryptophan in the brain is influenced by the plasma level of free tryptophan (that not bound to albumin) and, from competition for entry into brain, by the plasma level of branched chain amino acids. Hence, oral administration of branched chain amino acids could, theoretically, prevent the increase in 5-HT level during exercise and therefore delay physical and mental fatigue. Evidence in support of this hypothesis is presented.

Résumé Les masses communes des amino-acides libres chezTetracladium setigerum etHeliscus submersus ont été analysées par des méthodes chromatographiques utilisant une couche mince de cellulose. Elles sont typiques pour la plupart des mycètes. Les amino-acides libres n'apparaissant que rarement ont été: l'hydroxyproline chezT. setigerum cultivé sur de l'acide glutamique, l'éthanolamine chezT. setigerum etH. submersus cultivé sur l'acide glutamique et enfin l'acide -aminobutyrique chezH. submersus avec comme nutrition la tyrosine.

Riassunto Mediante elettroforesi in fase libera è stato studiato il protiogramma epatico durante l'intossicazione con dietilamide dell'acido lisergico (LSD) nel ratto albino.Si sono osservate profonde modificazioni del quadro le quali sonto completamente reversibili.

Zusammenfassung Nach den vorliegenden Befunden scheinen Taurin und/oder Sarcosin, Glycin und/oder Glutaminsäure die wesentlichen Aminosäuren derCiona-Muskulatur zu sein. Das charakteristische Chromatogramm lässt sich in nahezu gleicher Intensität auch in den Extrakten von ausgehungerten Versuchstieren nachweisen.     

Formation of asparagine and increase in the free amino acid content in virus infected leaves ofAbelmoschus esculentus

Zusammenfassung Papierchromatographische Analysen der freien Aminosäuren und Amide in gesunden und mit «yellow mosaic»-Virus infizierten Blättern vonAbelmoschus esculentus zeigen neben einer Zunahme von Leucin, Phenylalanin, Valin + Methionin und Asparaginsäure die Bildung einer neuen, ninhydrinpositiven Substanz und Asparagin in den infizierten Blättern. Es werden Anregungen für weitere Untersuchungen gemacht.     

Effect of riboflavin deficiency on free amino acid nitrogen concentrations of liver,muscle and plasma

Zusammenfassung Männliche Albino-Ratten, 45 Tage bei riboflavinarmer Nahrung, zeigten erhöhten Gehalt freien Aminosäure-Stickstoffs in Leber, Muskel und Plasma. Die Erhöhung scheint durch eine gesteigerte Aktivität der Nebennierenrinde beim Riboflavinmangel herbeigeführt zu sein.     

Concerning the free amino acids in the hydroid tubularia

Résumé La composition de l'amine acide libre dans les deux espèces deTubularia a été examinée au moyen de la chromatographie. Les tissus d'hydranthe deT. crocea avaient 21 amines acides libres dont 18 ont été identifiées dans les hydrocauli et dans les hydranthes régénérés deT. crocea, 19 dans les hydranthes deT. spectabilis et 14 dans les hydrocauli deT. spectabilis. La différence principale entre les hydranthes et les hydrocauli réside dans la distribution de certaines taches non-identifiées qui apparurent dans les chromatogrammes developpés avec la ninhydrine et les réactifs pour les groupes des imidazoles, guanidines, ou sulfhydriles.
