Inhibition of DNA biosynthesis in human lymphocytes by alpha 1-antitrypsin]

Incorporation of tritiated thymidine into human lymphocytes from tonsils is markedly inhibited by purified alpha1-antitrypsin-preparations. This inhibitory effect is observed in lymphocytes stimulated by a mitogen factor (phytohemagglutinin) as in non stimulated lymphocytes.     

Effects of injury on the concentration of alpha1-macroglobulin and alpha2-macroglobulin in the plasmas of male and remale rats.

The effects of injury on the concentration of alpha1-macroglobulin and alpha2-macroglobulin in the plasmas of male and remale rats has been investigates. At 5 days after injury to the male rats the alpha1-macroglobulin concentration increased to 131% of its preinjury value. The alpha2-macroglobulin concentration increased more rapidly to a maximum of 86 times its initial value. In the female rats alpha2-macroglobulin increased only slightly and alpha1-macroglobulin not at all.     

Antigenic similarity of humanα 1-antitrypsin to a corresponding protein in the serum of non-human primates

Zusammenfassung Mit der Methode der Präzipitationshemmung nachHerzenberg et al.⁶ wurde die Kreuzreaktion von Seren subhumaner Primaten mit einem Antiserum gegen menschliches ₁-Antitrypsin gemessen. Die Ergebnisse stimmen mit der geltenden Taxonomie gut überein. ₁-Antitrypsin hat sich während der Evolution offenbar weniger konservativ verhalten als Serumalbumin.

Variations of the orthodiphenol content ofCynara scolymus L. during the plant growing seasons

Summary The variations undergone by chlorogenic acid, cynarine, cynazoside and scolymoside during the biological cycle of the artichoke plant were studied. Furthermore, the differences in the composition of the orthodiphenolic fraction between different organs of the plant were studied.     

Age- and sex-related differences in the content of prothymosin alpha in rat tissues.

Differences in the tissue content of prothymosin alpha during the early postnatal development of male and female rats are reported. Thymus and spleen have been found to contain significantly higher amounts of prothymosin alpha in the newborn and prepubertal animals, as compared to adults, whereas liver has been found to contain low levels of prothymosin alpha throughout development. These findings indicate a functional association of prothymosin alpha with the proliferating lymphoid tissues of the young rat.     

Changes in the level of alpha1-macroglobulin in rats during Masugi nephritis]

Using chromatographic technique on "Sephadex G 200" associated to immunologic qualitative and quantitative techniques, the authors showed that the alpha1-macroglobulin is present in normal Rat urines. This protein is also present in urines obtained during the Masugi nephritis. The alpha1-macroglobulin concentration observed in the different urine samples is unrelated to the total proteinuria evolution. The results given allow us to discuss the mechanisms of the glomerular filtration.     

Levels of beta-trace protein and lysozyme in human amniotic fluids.

The levels of beta-trace protein and lysozyme were estimated in amniotic fluids from normal fetuses and from fetuses with neuraltube defects. The values of these proteins in normal amniotic fluids were found to be similar to those detected in fetuses with anencephaly and spina bifida. The levels of lysozyme were shown to be correlated with gestational age.     

Cytokinin and gibberellin-like activity in the spring sap of trees

Zusammenfassung Die Xylemsäfte vonAcer pseudoplatanus undBetula pubescens enthalten vor dem Austreiben der Knospen im Frühjahr Cytokinine und Gibberellin-ähnliche Stoffe. Diese stammen entweder aus den Wurzeln oder aus dem Xylemparenchym.     

Association between pregnancy-associated alpha2-glycoprotein (alpha2-PAG) and mixed leucocyte reaction determinants on the leucocyte surface.

alpha2-PAG is present on the surface on mononuclear blood leucocytes and can be demonstrated predominantly on B-lymphocytes and monocytes. Pretreatment of cells with antibody to alpha2-PAG leads to a marked reduction in Fc-rosette formation. Competitive blocking experiments with specific antisera reveal a particularly close association between alpha2-PAG and MLR (mixed leucocyte reaction) determinants on the cell surface. These findings suggest one mechanism whereby alpha2-PAG may modify cell-mediated immune responses.
