Résumé Un procédé facile pour distinguer et estimer quantitativement des phospholipides du foie est décrit. Les phospholipides principaux sont séparés par chromatographie sur une couche mince et, dans la suite, l'on estime les produits toujours adsorbés sur le gel de silice.     

Quantitative biological determination of 5-hydroxytryptamine

Zusammenfassung Die zwei meistgebrauchten Methoden der biologischen Auswertung von 5-Hydroxytryptamin, nämlich die am isolierten, atropinisierten Rattenuterus bzw. Rattencolon, wurden in bezug auf ihre Eignung für die quantitative Bestimmung verglichen. Für diesen Zweck bedienten wir uns der sogenannten 2 + 2-Dosen-Prozedur. Beide Methoden ergaben statistisch gleichwertige Resultate. Die Unregelmässigkeit der Uteruskontraktionen machen das Testieren öfters unmöglich, was beim Colon sehr selten der Fall ist. Ausserdem ist das Colon empfindlicher als der Uterus. Wegen dieser Vorteile ist das Colon für die quantitative biologische Auswertung von 5-Hydroxytryptamin dem Uterus vorzuziehen.     

Quantitative determination of enzymic activities in cells and in extracellular fluid aspirated from human tumors by needle biopsy

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Punktionsmethode zur quantitativen Bestimmung der Enzymaktivität in Zellen und interstizieller Flüssigkeit menschlicher Tumoren beschrieben. Die in den Zellen und der interstiziellen Flüssigkeit von Mammacarcinomen und -fibroadenomen gemessene Dipeptidaseaktivität wurde mit derjenigen verschiedener Körperflüssigkeiten verglichen.     

Quantitative determination of the activity of acid peptidases of industrial origin]

Reagent ninhydrine-Cd++, reacts with free alpha and epsilon amino groups of proteins. Horse-heart apomyoglobin was subjected to exhaustive succinylation, rendering the product non reactive to ninhydrine. The succinylglobin was submitted to enzyme digestion at pH 2.0, 4.0, 4.7 and 6.0. The commercially available enzymes contain mainly pepsin-like and chymosin-like enzymes. The enzymatic digests of succinyl-globin contain new free alpha-amino groups reacting with ninhydrin. Enzymatic digestion was performed under various condition (ratio E/S, pH). The results were compared to those obtained with synthetic substrate: PRO-HIS-LEU-SER-PHE(NO2)-NLEU-ALA-LEU-OME. The price of the synthetic substrate used, was more than 100 times the cost of succinyl-globin, thus the use of this substrate is a valuable tool for the quantitative estimation of peptidase activity in commercially available (pepsin, chymosin-like) enzymes.     

Quantitative determination of adenovirus antigens by means of a fluorescent precipitin test

Zusammenfassung Es wird die Anwendung eines quantitativen Fluoreszenz-Präzipitin-Tests für Adenovirus-Antigene beschrieben. Die Methode wurde für 11 verschiedene Adenoviren angewendet und hat sich als relativ typenspezifisch erwiesen.

Quantitative lipoprotein analysis by direct cholesterol determination in the centrifugation medium

Summary The adaptation of the lipid extraction technique reported allows KBr to be eliminated and cholesterol to be assayed directly in the centrifugation medium. The recovery of cholesterol is about 96.1%, and the quantitative analysis of plasma lipoproteins is therefore improved.     

Quantitative determination of acetylcholinesterase activity in individual megakaryocytes at various stages of maturation

Zusammenfassung Die Aktivität der Azetylcholinesterase von einzelnen Megakaryozyten verschiedener Reifegrade wurde mit Hilfe des Cartesischen Tauchers bestimmt. Die Megakaryozyten zeigen auf dem Megakaryoblasten- und Promegakaryozytenstadium grosse Unterschiede der Azetylcholinesteraseaktivität. In der letzten Phase der Reifung, wenn die Zellen einen Durchmesser von 45 µ erreichen, wird das Ferment am stärksten wirksam.     

Quantitative evaluation of irradiated bone grafts resorption rate by the electron spin resonance technique

Zusammenfassung Das durch die Bestrahlungssterilisation in Knochentransplantaten induzierte stabile ESR-Signal wurde als biologisches Merkmal für die quantitative Bestimmung des zeitlichen Verlaufs der Knochenresorption benützt. Allotransplantate am KaninchenCalvaria ergaben einen linearen Abfall des Spins/mg im Zeitbereich von 0–15 Wochen.     

Simple estimation of blood content in bone homogenates for the determination of the real amount of drugs in bone tissue

Summary The content of blood in bone homogenates can be determined quantitatively by estimation of the haemin in the homogenate and in a sample of peripheral blood taken at the same time. Haem is completely split from the haemoglobin molecule by reaction with hydrochloric acid-acetone and converted to haemin, which can be analyzed spectrophotometrically. The blood content can be calculated from the amount of haemin in the homogenate in relation to that of the peripheral blood. This method is useful to determine the real amount of drugs in bone tissue.Acknowledgment. Thanks are due to Dr N. Walker and Dr H. Quantitative determination of amino acids in the 10−14 molar range by scanning microscope photometry

Zusammenfassung Die beschriebene Methode stellt eine Kombination der Mikrochromatographie und der Scanning-Mikroskop-Photometrie dar und ermöglicht eine quantitative Bestimmung von C¹⁴-markierten Dansyl-Aminosäuren in biologischen Material im Bereich von 10^–14 M.

Regulation of neutrophil trafficking from the bone marrow

Neutrophils are an essential component of the innate immune response and a major contributor to inflammation. Consequently, neutrophil homeostasis in the blood is highly regulated. Neutrophil number in the blood is determined by the balance between neutrophil production in the bone marrow and release from the bone marrow to blood with neutrophil clearance from the circulation. This review will focus on mechanisms regulating neutrophil release from the bone marrow. In particular, recent data demonstrating a central role for the chemokines CXCL12 and CXCL2 in regulating neutrophil egress from the bone marrow will be discussed.
