Electron microscopical observation of the contact between ribosomes and detergent-resistant cytofilaments

Summary The contact of cytofilaments with ribosome-like particles in Triton X-100-treated cells of Zajdela ascites hepatoma was revealed. It is suggested that cytofilaments are engaged in the transport of ribosomes from the nuclear surface into definite areas of cytoplasm.     

Electron microscopical aspects of myelin ultrastructure

Zusammenfassung Das Myelin peripherer Nerven von Amphibien und Säugetieren scheint, mit Hochleistungselektronenmikroskop untersucht, aus einer regelmässigen Anordnung von osmiophilen Granula und osmiophoben Globula zu bestehen. Solche Untereinheiten scheinen häufig polyedrische Gebilde zu formen, in welchen zentrale Granula jeweils von 6 osmiophoben Globula umgeben sind. Es ist beim Froschischiadicus möglich, die Struktur des Myelins zu zerstören und die Granula von den Globula durch Behandlung mit Trypsin zu trennen.

Résumé L'examen au microscope électronique du bronchus primaire intrapulmonaire deGallus domesticus a révelé la présence d'un complexe neurite-récepteur très semblable aux cellules du glomus carotidien des mammifères, et aux cellules de Merkel qui se trouvent dans les structures épidermiques des vertébrés. La fonction possible chémorécepteur ou méchanorécepteur de ces cellules est discutée.

Zusammenfassung Erstmalig werden ultrastrukturell neuroepitheliale Synapsen vegetativer Nerven an den Hauptzellen von Nebenschilddrüsen (Mensch) nachgewiesen. Eine nervöse Beeinflussung der Parathormonsynthese und -sekretion ist daher möglich.

Electron microscopic observation of nucleosomes in ultrathin sections of heparin-treated nuclei

Summary Isolated rat liver nuclei display nucleosomes (-bodies) in common ultrathin sections after treatment of nuclei with heparin. The masking of nucleosomes in intact chromatin by some extranucleosomal component is suggested.
