Zusammenfassung Das synthetische Bradykinin H-L-Arg-L-Pro-L-Pro-Gly-L-Phe-L-Ser-L-Pro-L-Phe-L-Arg-OH hat (innerhalb der durch Unterschiede in der Methodik bedingten Fehlerbreite) die gleiche biologische Wirksamkeit wie natürliches, durch Einwirkung von Trypsin oderBothrops jararaca-Gift aus Rinderplasma gewonnenes Bradykinin.     

Preparation of a new synthetic dehydrorotenoid

Zusammenfassung Eine einfache Synthese eines Dehydrorotenoids 1,2-Dihydro-2-methyl-12H-[1]benzopyrano [3,4-b] furo [2,3-h] [1] benzopyran-6-on aus Desoxybenzoin Derivat wird beschrieben.     

Identification and characterization of a highly thermostable bacteriophage lysozyme

Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteriophage KMV is a T7-like lytic phage. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry of the structural proteins revealed gene product 36 (gp36) as part of the KMV phage particle. The presence of a lysozyme domain in the C terminal of this protein (gp36C) was verified by turbidimetric assays on chloroform-treated P. aeruginosa PAO1 and Escherichia coli WK6 cells. The molecular mass (20,884 Da) and pI (6.4) of recombinant gp36C were determined, as were the optimal enzymatic conditions (pH 6.0 in 16.7 mM phosphate buffer) and activity (4800 U/mg). Recombinant gp36C is a highly thermostable lysozyme, retaining 26% of its activity after 2 h at 100°C and 21% after autoclaving. This thermostability could prove an interesting characteristic for food conservation technology.Received 13 July 2004; received after revision 31 August 2004; accepted 6 September 2004     

Biological and biochemical characterization of a new isolate of baboon Papio papio endogenous type C virus]

A new strain of Baboon Papio papio endogeneous type C virus was isolated from the testis of an animal of this species. The strain was characterized biochemically and biologically. It presents a host-range different from that of the prototype strain of the same virus.     

Acylfulvenes,a new class of potent antitumor agents

Acylfulvene, derived from the sesquiterpene illudin S by treatment with acid (reverse Prins reaction), is far less reactive to thiols than illudin S. However, it is reduced readily to an aromatic product, in the same way as illudin S. This may explain its greatly improved therapeutic index compared to that of the parent compound.Unfortunately, publication was held up due to postal delay.     

The adrenocorticotropic action of a new synthetic pentacosapeptide

Résumé L'action adrénocorticotrope d'un polypeptide à 25 acides aminés, comprenant 3 modifications de structure par rapport à la séquence 1–25 de l'ACTH naturelle est étudiée et démontrée. La destruction enzymatique de ce pentacosapeptide paraît être plus lente dans le sang que dans les tissus musculaire et sous-cutané. L'augmentation de la dose injectée produit un allongement de la durée de stimulation de la cortico-surrénale.     

Prolonged elevation of plasma cortisol levels in dogs treated with an 18 amino acid synthetic corticotrophin

Zusammenfassung Die Bestimmung der Plasma-Konzentration von Cortisol in ovariectomierten Hunden, welche mit intravenösen Gaben von -Corticotropinoktadekapeptid (CIBA 41,795-Ba) oder Tetracosaktid vorbehandelt worden waren, ergab die interessante Tatsache, das in beiden Fällen die Cortisolkonzentration gleich stark erhöht war aber im ersten Fall die Erhöhung unter dem Einfluss von CIBA 41,795-Ba zwei- bis viermal länger erhalten blieb als nach Behandlung mit Tetracosaktid.

Biological activity of a synthetic decapeptide corresponding to the proposed growth hormone-releasing hormone

Résumé Le décapeptide synthétique Val-His-Leu-Ser-Ala-Glu-Glu-Lys-Glu-Ala, dont la structure correspond à celle proposée pour la hormone hypothalamique de libération de l'hormone de croissance hypophysaire (GH-RH) a été étudié in vitro pour contrôler l'activité de la GH-RH. Le décapeptide synthétique a stimulé la sécretion de l'hormone GH comme on a pu le constater par des dosages biologiques. L'utilisation du système radioimmunologique pour le dosage de la GH n'a pas fait apparaître cette augmentation de décharge de GH dans l'hypophyse, en présence de la GH-RH d'origine naturelle ou du décapeptide synthétique.     

Cholecystokinetic activity of a new synthetic caerulein-like heptapeptide in man

Riassunto Su un gruppo di soggetti normali è stata studiata, in corso di colecistografia, l'azione colecistocinetica di un nuovo eptapeptide caeruleinosimile, che iniettato per via intramuscolare alla dose di 10 µg/kg ha provocato riduzioni del volume della colecisti in media del 70–80%.

Hydroxydihydroergosine,a new ergot alkaloid analogue from directed biosynthesis bySphacelia sorghi

Summary A new ergot alkaloid, 9-hydroxydihydroergosine, has been produced by axenic cultures ofSphacelia sorghi to which 4-hydroxy-proline was added when biomass accumulation was complete. Evidence for a lack of biosynthetic specificity for the first, second and third amino acid in cyclic tripeptide alkaloids has now been found amongst ergot fungi.Supported by the Science Research Council and Roche Products Ltd.
