Summary The radiosensitivity of primary spermatocytes in pachytene stage was estimated by counting the number of spermatids in the testes of control and MPG-treated mouse after exposure to 500, 1000 and 1500 R of Co60 gammarays. For this purpose, control and MPG-treated mice were killed 5 days after irradiation and countings of spermatids was made in stages I and II of the tubules. It has been observed that, although there was a death of primary spermatocytes in irradiated MPG-protected groups, quantitatively significant protection was afforded by this drug at all the 3 dose-levels studied.  相似文献

Summary The pronormoblasts and normoblasts in Swiss albino mice were found to be very sensitive to radiation and their percentage was reduced drastically after exposure to gamma-rays. The degree of damage increased with increase in radiation dose. MPG reduced the initial damage and brought about an early and fast recovery. It is concluded that the drug protects the stem cells and thereby reduces the depletion of the regenerating pool which causes a more efficient and accelerated recovery.  相似文献

Summary MPG, administered in utero against I131-irradiation, protected young mice to some extent from loss of body weight at different postnatal intervals. Increase in the tissue weight induced by the internal emitter was enhanced at 6 weeks of age by the drug.Acknowledgment. Summary External irradiation resulted in an increase in thyroid131I uptake and plasma PB131I conversion ratio, whereas pretreatment with MPG reduced both the values significantly. Summary The administration of dexamethasone (DXM, 2.00 mg/kg) 1 h prior to the injection of lethal doses of ethanol was found to offer complete protection against ethanol toxicity at doses up to 5.25 g/kg and partial protection using higher doses. Diabodies are recombinant, dimeric, antibody-based molecules composed of two non-covalently associated single-chain antibody fragments that bind to an antigen in a divalent manner. In an attempt to develop more effective therapeutic molecules against scorpion venoms, we designed a diabody derived from monoclonal antibody 9C2, which neutralizes the toxicity of scorpion neurotoxin AahI in mammals. The recombinant diabody produced in the periplasm of Escherichia coli was purified to homogeneity in a single step by protein L-agarose affinity chromatography. It was functional, and possessed a high binding affinity to AahI (8 x 10(-11) M). The bivalence of the diabody was confirmed by size-exclusion chromatography, isoelectrofocussing and electron microscopic observations. Finally, the diabody showed high thermal stability in serum and demonstrated protective activity when injected intraperitoneally in mice experimentally envenomed with toxin AahI. In conclusion, the diabody format gives the 9C2 molecule advantageous properties that are particularly important for potential clinical applications in the treatment of envenomations.  相似文献
