Summary In contradiction to some Japanese authors (Oguma, Makino, Nakamura), we are unable to find any difference in the chromosome sets of the male and female ofLacerta vivipara (2N = 36). In a saurian, where the analysis is very easy (Chamaeleon bitaeniatus), there are, without the smallest doubt, 24 chromosomes in both sexes (20M + 4m). The aquatic bugAbedus herberti (Hemiptera: Belostomatidae) secretes a mixture containing four pregnanes (desoxycorticosterone (I), pregnenolone (II), progesterone (III), and 3-hydroxy-pregn-5-en-20-one (IV)) from its cephalic glands. Pregnanes had previously been characterized from the defensive glands of aquatic beetles (Dytiscidae) and shown to be deterrent to fish. It may be specifically under predation pressure from fish thatA. herberti and Dytiscidae evolved their comparable defenses. 相似文献

The components of individual Dufours glands excised fromAnoplolepis custodiens workers were analysed by GC-MS. In addition to then-alkanes andn-alkenes previously reported2 in these glands, primary alcohols (C19-C22), secondary alcohols (C20-C23), 2-ketones (C20-C23) and possibly carboxylate ethyl esters (C19 and C21) were identified as components of these glands. It seems possible that these high-boiling compounds are used by the workers in laying trails on the hot sandy surfaces of their characteristic habitat and in lining of the inner walls of nests, but no standard compounds have been available to us for any behavioral studies. 相似文献

Die für die genannten Arten verwendete Thymidinkonzentration erweist sich fürD. hydei als stark toxisch und verhindert die Verpuppung vollkommen. Das Ergebnis zeigt, dass verschiedene genetische Systeme sehr unterschiedlich auf ein und dieselbe chemische Substanz reagieren können.

Summary Flavonoids, (–)-epigallocatechin (1), myricetin (2) and quercetin (3), were investigated for inhibitory effects onE. coli DNA polymerase I and T7 bacteriophage RNA polymerase. In both DNA and RNA synthesis,1 and3 inhibited enzyme reactions by non-competitive and mixed type inhibition respecitively, with regard to template DNAs. Myricetin (2) inhibited DNA and RNA polymerase reactions by mixed type and competitive type inhibition, respectively, with template DNAs. The study of Drosophila melanogaster by a combination of forward genetics with specific mutants, and reverse genetics, in which a given gene is expressed in an
appropriate brain area to test its effect on behavior, provides a unique opportunity to explore the causal relationship between
a particular gene, its function in the cell and the behavioral outcome at the organismic level. Enhanced male-to-male courtship
has been shown to occur as a result of mutations in several different genes. For example, the Voila mutant exhibits intense GAL4 reporter expression in the tarsal gustatory sensilla, suggesting the importance of tapping by
a male on the female abdomen with his forelegs. Feminization of parts of the antennal lobe and mushroom body by targeted expression
of a female-determining gene transformer
+ (tra
+) drives the male to court other males. Mutations in the tra target gene fruitless (fru), which is expressed in the antennal lobe as well as the suboesophageal ganglion (the gustatory inputs are processed here),
also induce homosexual courtship in males. These results suggest that sensory inputs mediated and/or processed by the tarsal
receptors, suboesophageal ganglion, antennal lobe and mushroom body contribute to the regulation of male–female courtship.
Mosaic analysis localized the neural center for male courtship behavior to the posterior dorsal brain, in which the sensory
information processed by the aforementioned neural structures may be integrated. Another mosaic study mapped the neural center
for female sexual behavior, as measured by her receptiveness to copulation, to the anterior dorsal brain. The issue as to
how the mutations that reduce female sexual receptiveness, e.g. dissatisfaction (dsf), spinster (spin) and chaste (cht), affect the structure and/or function of this neural center deserves to be addressed urgently.

Summary A significant antitumor activity of oridonin (1) and lasiokaurin (2), the kaurene-type diterpenoids ofIsodon species, was shown by their i.p. injection to the test mice inoculated by Ehrlich ascites carcinoma. Enmein (8), compounds9 and3 were also active under larger dose.
