Lead potentiation of endotoxin lethality in rats: lack of effect of kininase inhibition.

Although lead and SQ20881 are potent in vitro inhibitors of kininase II activity, SQ20881 does not alter the sensitivity of rats to endotoxin. These results indicate that marked changes in plasma kininase activity do not contribute to endotoxin morbidity and that kininase inhibition is not the mechanism whereby lead ions sensitize rats to endotoxin.     

Enhancing effect of insulin on endotoxin lethality

Résumé Nous avons constaté que les souris traitées à l'insuline possèdent une sensibilité élevée à l'endotoxine de bactéries à gram négatif. Ce résultat concorde avec l'hypothèse d'une relation inverse entre la quantité de glucose dans le sang et la sensibilité d'un hôte à une grande variété de «Stressors».     

Lack of endotoxin effect on the microcirculation after pretreatment with detoxified endotoxin (endotoxoid)

Influence of oral glucose feeding on endotoxin lethality in mice

Protective effect of native levan on endotoxin toxicity in mice and rats

Summary High polymer levan administered to mice and rats before the injection of endotoxin partly protects the animals from the lethal effects of the LPS.This study summarizes a thesis in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Medical Sciences in the School of Continuing Medical Education of the Tel-Aviv University Sackler Medical School.     

Lack of effect of butylated hydroxytoluene on dimethylhydrazine-induced colon carcinogenesis in rats.

Rats were given 6600 ppm of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) in the diet along with 10 weekly oral doses of dimethylhydrazine (DMH, 30 MG/KG). The incidence and mean number of colonic tumors produced were similar to that of rats given DMH alone. Thus, BHT did not provide any protective effect against colon carcinogenesis.     

The effect of endotoxin on the lactic acid production in pregnant and non-pregnant rats

Zusammenfassung Die Milchsäureproduktion ist im Knochenmark und in den Leukozyten trächtiger Tiere infolge Endotoxineinwirkung signifikant höher als bei Kontrolltieren. Während sich die Milchsäureproduktion endotoxinbehandelter Plazenten infolge Dauerhemmung der aeroben Glykolyse völlig von allen untersuchten Geweben unterscheidet, bleibt der Sauerstoffverbrauch unverändert.     

Lack of cortisone inhibition of chromosomal puffing inDrosophila melanogaster

Résumé L'administration de cortisone (ou d'hydrocortisone) à des larvesDrosophila n'inhibe pas le bourgeonnement normal des chromosomes de leurs glandes salivaires. Toutefois, la quantité de cortisone que ces larves peuvent tolérer est environ 1/10 de celle qui supprime le bourgeonnement chez les larvesSciara.     

Hypersensitivity to endotoxin hepatotoxicity in rats with inflammatory lesions

The ratio of sinusoidal nonparenchymal cells to hepatocytes in rat liver was significantly increased following induction of inflammation, and decreased after subsequent exposure to endotoxin, particularly in the region around the terminal portal venules. Rats with inflammatory lesions were more sensitive to endotoxin hepatocytotoxicity than normal controls, as judged from the dose-dependent increase in activity of serum transaminases and from the extent of liver tissue injury. In addition, these animals, which were already in a state of depletion of hepatic glycogen, demonstrated marked hyperglycemia 24 h after endotoxin administration in small doses of less than 2 mg/kg.     

Increased vascular prostacyclin activity in rats after endotoxin administration

Summary Endotoxin did not interact in vitro with prostacyclin activity but stimulated its release from vascular tissues when administered in single doses to rats 30 min before testing.Acknowledgments. Lack of specific inhibition of graft-versus-host reaction by anti-fab serum

Résumé En recherchant une action des anticorps antiFab sur la réaction primaire des cellules immunologiquement compétentes, on a mis en évidence une inhibition de la réaction du greffon contre l'hôte par du sérum de Lapin anti-Fab de Souris: cette inhibition n'est cependant pas liée aux anticorps anti-Fab, mais à la cytotoxicité des sérums de Lapin aussi bien anti-Fab que normal.
