Effect of cyclic AMP and theophylline on phagocytotic activity of Tetrahymena pyriformis.

Dibutyril cAMP and the cPDE-inhibitor theophylline both enhance the phagocytotic activity of Tetrahymena. Theophylline and cAMP-activating histamine are synergistic. It follows that the cAMP-adenylcyclase system functions in the unicellular animal Tetrahymena.     

Circadian variation of adrenocortical cyclic nucleotides (cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP) in hypophysectomized rats

The existence of a circadian variation in the adrenocortical concentrations of cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP in male adult Wistar rats examined 10 days after hypophysectomy is demonstrated. The results suggest that the circadian variations of adrenocortical cyclic nucleotides observed previously in intact rats might not entirely depend upon pituitary corticotrophin.

Allergic reactions,cyclic AMP and histamine release

Summary Both isobutylmethylxantine and theophylline increased the level of cyclic AMP in the mast cell. Theophylline reduced the allergic histamine release, whereas isobutylmethylxynthine caused a pronounced potentiation of the histamine release. This indicates that the hypothesis of an inverse relationship between the level of cyclic AMP in mast cells and histamine release is too simple.This work was supported by grants from the Danish Medical Research Council (Grant No. 512-5270) and from Lundbeckfonden.     

Significance of cyclic AMP in the regulation of exocrine pancreas secretion

Zusammenfassung Nachweis, dass die Zufuhr von dibutyryl-zyklischem AMP (DcAMP) in vitro die Enzymproduktion erhöht und zwar mit nur geringer Gewichtsveränderung des Kaninchenpankreas. Die Enzymproduktion wird ebenso durch Theophyllin vermehrt und es wird vermutet, das DcAMP der Vermittler der pankreozymen Wirkung im Kaninchen ist.     

The effect of cyclic AMP on dog renal function

The infusion of dibutyryl-cyclic AMP into the dog renal artery in vivo leads to diuresis, natriuresis and glucosuria. Addition of the nucleotide to the incubation medium bathing dog renal cortex slices in vitro causes inhibition of p-amino-hippurate accumulation and stimulation of glycine and beta-methyl-glucoside transport. The results are interpreted in terms of the development of a blood-lumen flux of sodium and water in the renal proximal tubule, analogous to that seen in the intestine.

Flavonoid compounds are potent inhibitors of cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase

Summary The inhibitory activity of 19 flavonoid molecules on cyclic AMP breakdown by a commercial beef heart phosphodiesterase preparation is reported. 7 compounds are active in the micromolar range, 2 of which have a potency equivalent to that of papaverine. Pineal-related changes in cyclic AMP levels of rat medial basal hypothalamus

Summary Pinealectomy (Px) in adult male rats resulted in increased cyclic AMP accumulation by medial basal hypothalamic (MBH) explants 3 and 7 days after surgery. 24 h after superior cervical ganglionectomy (Gx) an augmented MBH cyclic AMP accumulation was observed. The effects of Px and Gx were additive, as revealed in animals subjected to Gx 3 days after Px.This study was supported by grants from the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) (N^o 6638) and from the Fundación Alberto J.
