Statistical analysis of the relation between the length of the genoma and the diploid number of the chromosomes inCercopithecus

Riassunto Utilizzando metodiche statistiche è stato analizzato l'incremento della lunghezza totale del genoma rispetto al numero dei cromosomi in piastre a diversa ploidia nel genereCercopithecus. È stato riscontrato che la relazione numero dei cromosomi e lunghezza del genoma è significativamente lineare. È supposto un meccanismo adittivo per interpretare l'incremento del numero dei cromosomi.     

Investigations on the relation between β-lipoproteins and plasma euglobulin fibrinolysis

Zusammenfassung Es wurde festgestellt, dass aus Serum isolierte-lipoproteiden in vitro die Fibrinolyse der Plasma-Euglobuline hemmen. Da weiter festgestellt werden konnte, dass in Puerperium das Niveau der Serum-Lipoproteide sinkt, während gleichzeitig die Aktivität des Fibrinolyse-Systems zunimmt, wird vermutet, dass auch in vivo ein ähnlicher Prozess abläuft.     

New evidence on the relation between return volatility and trading volume

In the empirical literature, it has been shown that there exists both linear and non‐linear bi‐directional causality between trading volumes and return volatility (measured by the square of daily return). We re‐examine this claim by using realized volatility as an estimator of the unobserved volatility, adopting a stationary de‐trended trading volume, and applying a more recent data sample with robustness tests over time. Our linear Granger causality test shows that there is no causal linear relation running from volume to volatility, but there exists an ambiguous causality for the reverse direction. In contrast, we find strong bi‐directional non‐linear Granger causality between these two variables. On the basis of the non‐linear forecasting modeling technique, this study provides strong evidence to support the sequential information hypothesis and demonstrates that it is useful to use lagged values of trading volume to predict return volatility. Riassunto Sulla base di ricerche spettrofotometriche all'infrarosso su sezioni di osso intero, di osso decalcificato (osseina) e di osso privato della frazione organica gli autori sono giunti ai risultati seguenti. Nell'osso intero i legami fra osseina e frazione inorganica sono realizzati dai gruppi solforici dell'osseina, dai gruppi PO₄ della frazione inorganica e da ponti idrogeno.     

Effects of ultra-violet light on nucleic acid and nucleoproteins and other biological systems

Résumé L'auteur a examiné les conséquences chimiques de l'absorption de radiations ultra-violettes par les substances présentes dans les cellules vivantes (en particulier l'acide désoxyribonucléique).Les effets observés sont dus: 1° à l'absorption directe des radiations; 2° à une action directe — ou activée photodynamiquement — sur l'oxygène présent. Les conséquences de cette dernière sont très semblables à celles produites par les rayons X.En ce qui concerne l'absorption directe des radiations U.V., il se pourrait que la rupture des chromosomes soit due à celle des liens existant entre les chaînes de DNA et l'histone.

The relation between gamma motor activity and the electroencephalogram

Zusammenfassung Es wurde gezeigt, dass die Weckreaktion im EEG meist mit Erregung der Muskelspindeln verknüpft war. In tieferer Narkose konnten die Muskelspindeln bei Erwärmung des Hypothalamus noch beeinflusst werden, ohne dass im EEG nennenswerte Veränderungen auftraten. Thermische Reizung im Hypothalamus konnte aber auch bei der «encéphale isolé»-Katze langsame, grosse Wellen in Grosshirnrinden-Ableitungen hervorrufen. Wahrscheinlich werden die Muskelspindeln und die Aktivität der Grosshirnrinde dabei über dasselbe System vom Hirnstamm beeinflusst.     

On the relation between the secretion of the perivascular mast cells and the serum level of mucoproteins

Zusammenfassung Es wurden bei den mit Formaldehyd oder Cortisol belasteten Ratten Sekretionsvorgänge adventitialer Mastzellen beobachtet, und zwar zur Zeit des Ansteigens der Serummukoproteine. Die Beziehungen zwischen beiden Phänomenen wurden besprochen.
