Strain differences in the lethal factor exerted by submandibular glands transplanted from male mice

Zusammenfassung Der Lethalfaktor von Submandibulardrüsen-Transplantaten wurde bei Mäusen verschiedener Mutanten, C3H, CBA, BALB/c und C57BL, beobachtet. Die Intensität des Lethalfaktors war am stärksten in Transplantaten von BALB/c Mäusen und am geringsten in denen von C3H Mäusen. Die C57BL-Variante war am anfälligsten für den Lethalfaktor.     

The in vitro effect of aprotinin upon spleen cells from normal and tumour-bearing mice exposed to PPD and tumour cells

Aprotinin (Trasylol) is shown to enhance the response of spleen cells from normal and tumour bearing mice to PPD nd tumour cells. This enhancement is greater in the tumour-bearing mice.

Proliferation of spleen cells from mice infected with friend virus in the spleens of unirradiated and irradiated mice

Résumé Quand des cellules spléniques de souris CBA/HT₆T₆ infectées par le virus de Friend sont injectées à des souris CBA/H normales, les rates des receveurs s'hypertrophient au cours de la semaine suivante. Une analyse chromosomale montra que toutes les cellules en division provenaient de l'hôte, suggérant que la splénomégalie fait suite à la libération du virus des cellules injectées.     

Correlation between the susceptibility of E. coli to phagocytosis and their ability to invade HeLa cells in vitro

Summary The susceptibility of several strains of E. coli to phagocytic killing by polymorphonuclear leucocytes and the ability of the same strains to invade HeLa cells were studied. It was found that only the strains resistant to killing by leucocytes were able to penetrate and multiply within HeLa cells.Acknowledgments. We thank Dr Bianca Pani who supplied us with HeLa cells. Correlation between the susceptibility of E. coli to phagocytosis and their ability to invade HeLa cells in vitro.

The susceptibility of several strains of E. coli to phagocytic killing by polymorphonuclear lencocytes and the ability of the same strains to invade HeLa cells were studied. It was found that only the strains resistant to killing by leucocytes were able to penetrate and multiply within HeLa cells.     

On the in vitro behaviour of mouse submaxillary gland cells. II. Metabolic differences between male and female C3H mice

Summary Submaxillary gland cells from female C3H mice were isolated, cultivated in vitro and their metabolic properties compared with those of male derived cells. Influence of presensitization with allogeneic lymphoma cells on the growth and response to therapy of radiation-induced lymphomas in mice

Summary Congenic mice were sensitized with viableH-2-incompatible radiation-induced lymphomas (RIL), challenged with syngeneic RIL and treated with bis-chloroethyl-nitrosourea. The response to potassium of the Na-K pump ATPase in low-K red blood cells from cattle at birth and in later life

It is shown that in low-K red blood cells of cattle the apparent affinity for K(1/Kapp K) at an inhibitory site of the Na-K ATPase increases markedly during the first 3 months of life. This site probably is the Na accepting site at the internal membrane surface and the change in Kapp K reflects an increase in KNa/KK, the ratio of the true dissociation constants. This effect may explain the concomitant fall in cellular K concentration.     

The degree of lipolysis of isolated fat cells from rats of different ages in relation to the triglyceride and nitrogen content

Zusammenfassung Die Freigabe unesterifizierter Fettsäuren in ein Medium aus isolierten Fettgewebezellen älterer Ratten (14 Monate) ist im Vergleich mit jüngeren Ratten (2 Monate) kleiner im Verhältnis zu den Triglyzeriden und nur unbedeutend in der Relation zum Stickstoff oder zum Volumen des Mediums.
