In this article, an attempt is made to review the presently known, completely identified crustacean neuropeptides with regard to structure, function and distribution. Probably the most important progress has been made in the elucidation of a novel family of large peptides from the X-organ-sinus gland system which includes crustacean hyperglycemic hormone (CHH), putative molt-inhibiting hormone (MIH) and vitellogenesis (= gonad)-inhibiting hormone (VIH). These peptides have so far only been found in crustaceans. Renewed interest in the neurohemal pericardial organs has led to the identification of a number of cardioactive/myotropic neuropeptides, some of them unique to crustaceans. Important contributions have been made by immunocytochemical mapping of peptidergic neurons in the nervous system, which has provided evidence for a multiple role of several neuropeptides as neurohormones on the one hand and as local transmitters or modulators on the other. This has been corroborated by physiological studies. The long-known chromatophore-regulating hormones, red pigment concentrating hormone (RPCH) and pigment-dispending hormone (PDH), have been placed in a broader perspective by the demonstration of an additional role as local neuromodulators. The scope of crustacean neuropeptide research has thus been broadened considerably during the last years.  相似文献

The organization of human forearm reflexes following the application of extension torque perturbations has been studied in three flexors of the elbow: brachioradialis (BR), biceps (B), and pronator teres (PT). Two of these flexors are also involved in wrist supination: (B) and pronation (PT). During the perturbation, the wrist was fixed at various angles: from full supination to full pronation. The results show that the amplitude of the reflex responses of B and PT is highly dependent on wrist position. By eliminating biceps length changes as a source of observed reflex variation, it has been shown that the normalized reflex amplitude of B increases by 300% when the wrist position is varied from full pronation to full supination. In contrast, the BR muscle has a reflex response which is independent of wrist position. These results are discussed in relation to the role of reciprocal innervation and the possible action of receptors encoding wrist angle.  相似文献

Sylvaticin (I), a new tetrahydroxy annonaceous acetogenin with nonadjacent tetrahydrofuran rings, has been isolated from the dried fruits of Rollinia sylvatica St. Hil. (Annonaceae). This compound is extremely cytotoxic to human tumor cells and shows promising insect control properties.  相似文献

Summary Rabbit interferon has been extensively desialylated and its metabolic behaviour has been evaluated in the rabbit. The half-life of asialointerferon is significantly shorter than the native interferon and its urinary excretion becomes negligible. An RNA-dependent RNA polymerase has been completely purified from Cauliflower inflorescences. Analysis of the purified enzyme on SDS-polyacrylamide gels showed one polypeptide chain with a molecular weight of 140,000 dalton. The enzyme is monomeric in its native state. The in vitro activity was completely dependent on added RNA, the most efficient templates being poly (U), poly (U, C), poly (I) and viral RNA.  相似文献

Summary Various alterations in Giemsa banding technique have been introduced to observe their influence on band formations in M-chromosome of Vicia faba root tip dividing cells. With the introduction of some minor alterations in the technique, revelation of a large number of classes of constitutive heterochromatin has been made possible. Apparently such Giemsa banding pattern is comparable to the ones observed in a routine way amongst mammalian chromosomes.Acknowledgments. Glycolipid transfer protein (GL-TP), a nonglycosylated protein with a molecular weight of 22,000 K, has been purified from pig brain. The protein transfers, by a carrier mechanism, glycolipids with a beta-glucosyl or beta-galactosyl residue directly linked to either ceramide or diacylglycerol. GL-TP appears to be present in most animal cells, and evidence has been obtained which indicates that it is a cytoplasmic protein. Little is known about the function of GL-TP. Current evidence indicates that glycosphingolipid glycosylation occurs at the luminal side of the Golgi apparatus, except for the glucosylation of ceramide, which has been shown to occur at the cytoplasmic side of the Golgi or endoplasmic membrane. It appears most likely that GL-TP participates in the intracellular traffic of glucosylceramide.  相似文献

The metabolic relationship between the marine molluscHypselodoris orsini and the spongeCacospongia mollior has been reinvestigated. The predator-prey association has been confirmed even though the metabolic patterns of the two invertebrates are substantially different. Most probably the nudibranch converts the main sponge metabolite, the sesterterpenoid scalaradial (1), into a less oxygenated related metabolite, deoxoscalarin (4), followed by a second chemical transformation leading to a new sesterterpenoid, 6-keto-deoxoscalarin (5) which is selectively compartmentalized into some dorsal glands, mantle dermal formations (MDFs), strategically distributed near the gills. 6-keto-deoxoscalarin (5) has been characterized by 1D and 2D NMR methods. Finally, the unusual association of some Chromodorididae molluscs with sponges containing sesterterpenoids suggests a further analysis of their taxonomical collocation is required.  相似文献

Mouse embryo cells, transformed in vitro by the transfer of chromosomes from HeLa human tumour cells, express a surface antigen (s) also found on HeLa cells. Summary Attention has previously been drawn to a specific effect of NHCP on embryonicPleurodeles cell differentiation. With a modified NHCP labelling technique, autoradiography has revealed a cytoplasmic concentration of labelled NHCP and has not revealed any difference between homospecific and heterospecific NHCP penetration.This work has been supported financially by research grants from the C.N.R.S. A sex pheromone produced by male cabbage looper moths, Trichoplusia ni (Hübner), has been isolated from the genital scent brushes and identified as 2-phenylethanol. It is shown conclusively to elicit specific behavioural responses in the female (such as wing vibration and abdominal elevation), as determined by a novel behavioural laboratory bioassay. This is taken as further evidence that the male pheromone of T. ni acts as a sexual stimulant (aphrodisiac) prior to mating. 2-Phenylethanol represents the first identification of a genital scent brush pheromone in the family Noctuidae, and of a male pheromone in the subfamily Plusiinae.  相似文献
