Summary Investigating the slow positive potentials of the electroretinogram (ERG) of different mammals, c-wave and d.c.-potential proved to be strictly discernible. With respect to its amplitude and its peak time, the c-wave differs in various species. There are two types of d.c.-potentials, a scotopic and a photopic one.     

Experimentelle Reversion von Tumorzellen in vivo

Summary European eels with fast growing epidermal papillomas (cauliflower disease) were treated with quinine-sulphate. At concentrations of 15 to 60 mg/l and after 8 weeks of treatment, there occurred newly formed mucous cells and club cells in the tumor tissue. Tight contact between all cells was reestablished. The nucleus-plasma-relation had evidently decreased. Electron microscopical studies showed a restauration of degenerated cell organelles, especially of the outer membrane. Growth rate of the tumors was reduced, and at a concentration of 60 mg/l the tumor tissue ceased growing from the beginning of treatment.     

Experimentelle Untersuchungen zur Pathogenese des Kontaktekzems

Summary The mechanism of development of contact eczema, which might serve as a working hypothesis for other clinical forms of eczema, is not yet fully understood. An attempt was made, by means of sensitization with Dinitrochlorobenzol in guinea-pigs, to determine the time and place of the pathogenetic phenomena, as well as the organs and tissues affected. Experiments on skin-explants permitted the separate investigation of the different systems, i.e. the blood, nerve and lymphe, presumed to be involved.It was ascertained that the lymphatic system is absolutely essential for the development of sensitization, and the blood path for its generalized spread.

Experimentelle Untersuchungen zur Steigerung der Laktatdehydrogenase-Aktivität des Harnes

Summary In rat urine, determinations of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity were performed. Normal values ranged between 94 and 140 mU/24 h urine specimens. Experimentally induced renal damage (anaphylactic or anaphylactoid shock; administration of sodium tetrathionate; potassium depletion) provoked a statistically significant increase in urinary LDH-activity. The 3 mechanisms by which such an increase might occur are briefly discussed.     

Experimentelle Untersuchungen zum Wirkungsmechanismus der beiden entwicklungsphysiologisch aktiven Fraktionen des «Gehirnhormons» der Insekten (Aktivationsfaktor I und II) auf die Prothoracaldrüse

Summary 2 prothoracotropical factors (activation factor I and II) have been obtained by gel filtration techniques from brains and corpora cardiaca of the cockroachPeriplaneta americana. In contrast to activation factor II, activation factor I caused significant influence of RNA synthesis. The RNA pattern of prothoracic glands stimulated by activation factor I as demonstrated by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis consists of different kinds of RNA. Short time incubation revealed effects on sRNA synthesis, while long time incubation demonstrated predominantly increase of ribosomal RNA synthesis. Measurements of the membrane potential of the prothoracic gland cells of the wax mothGalleria mellonella indicated an increase by activation factor II; activation factor I was without any visible effect. Our results demonstrate for the first time that the two activation factors induce different effects at cellular level.
