Tangential flow filtration of Bordetella pertussis submerse cultures.

A procedure is reported for the large scale separation of Bordetella pertussis microorganisms from liquid culture media by tangential flow filtration (cross flow filtration) using anisotropic membranes with a cut-off limit of 1 x 10(6) daltons, and microporous membranes with a pore size of 0.22 micrometer.

Summary Bordetella pertussis has been shown to remain viable for a period of 13 years on freeze-drying. Enhancing effect ofBordetella pertussis and propranolol on experimental immune hemolytic anemia

Hematopoietic changes in NMRI mice after the intravenous and subcutaneous injection ofBordetella pertussis vaccine

Zusammenfassung Sowohl die i.v. als auch die s.c. Injektion abgetöteter Zellen vonBordetella pertussis führt bei Mäusen zu Splenomegalie und ausgeprägter Blut-Leukozytose, an der Lymphozyten und Granulozyten beteiligt sind. Zudem bewirkte die Injektion vonB. pertussis eine deutliche Verminderung der Erythrocyten mit Minimalwerten am 5. Tag. Am 10. Tag und danach wurden wieder Normalwerte gefunden.

Zusammenfassung Der Corticosteron-Gehalt des Rattenplasmas wurde durch BPV-Behandlung vorübergehend reduziert, obwohl die ACTH-Wirkung auf den Corticosteron-Spiegel im Plasma unverändert blieb.     

The influence ofBordetella pertussis on the kinetics of antibody production to sheep red blood cells in NMRI mice

Zusammenfassung Die simultane i.p. Injektion von 4 × 10⁸ Schaferythrozyten und 2 × 10⁹ Zellen vonB. pertussis führt im Vergleich zur alleinigen Injektion des Erythrozytenantigens bei NMRI-Mäusen zu einer gesteigerten und verlängerten Proliferation M- und G/A-Antikörper produzierender Milzzellen.

Glomerular filtration rate and kidney blood flow in alloxan and streptozotocin diabetic rats

Summary Glomerular filtration rate (GFR), cardiac output, regional blood flow and kidney weight were measured in alloxan and streptozotocin diabetic rats at different times after the administration of diabetogen. A high GFR was found together with increased kidney weight and reduced blood flow.

Hippocampal cultures offer unique advantages for the study of neuronal development and synaptogenesis. Studies performed on this model enabled dissection of the temporal sequence of events which lead to the differentiation of pre- and postsynaptic compartments. Further studies on gel filtration of urinary substances

Summary Urine specimens from healthy children were concentrated and filtered through Sephadex G-100 and G-25. The eluate was recovered in fractions of 5 ml each. Total hexoses, galactose, total proteins and total uronic acids were determined on each fraction. Total hexoses and galactose were eluted in 6 distinct peaks. The uronic acid containing GAG were eluted in 4 small peaks on G-25 and 1 peak on G-100. This peak is eluted always with high amounts of galactose containing glycoproteins.This work was partially supported by research grants from the CONICET, República Argentina.

Zusammenfassung Die Glycogen-Phosphorylase-aktivierende Wirkung von Epinephrin wurde in Lebern und Muskeln von Ratten durch BPV-Behandlung gehemmt und die Epinephrinempfindlichkeit der BPV-behandelten Tiere durch Prednisolon wiederhergestellt.     

Molecular properties of pepsin as studied by gel filtration

Riassunto A bassa temperatura (5°C) variando il pH del mezzo da 6,50–7,25, la pepsina varia le sue dimensioni molecolari e si inattiva. Tale fenomeno, evidenziato per gel filtrazione, sembra sia dovuto alla formazione di un aggregato della pepsina di peso molecolare molto vicino a quello dell'albumina bovina.     

Further studies pertaining to aB. pertussis factor inhibiting the tuberculin reaction

Zusammenfassung Pertussis Vaccine führt zu einer Hemmung der Tuberkulin-Reaktion bei Meerschweinchen. Der anti-inflammatorisch aktive Faktor wurde näher charakterisiert. Er wird von den Bakterien in das Suspensionsmedium abgegeben und ist filtrierbar, hitze-resistent und nicht dialysierbar. Er blieb widerstandsfähig gegenüber der Einwirkung von Papain, Trypsin, Desoxyribonuklease, Ribonuklease, Lysozym und Hyaluronidase.
