Naloxone selectively blocks dopamine response of Br-type neuron inHelix pomatia L.

Summary The present study demonstrates that the potent opiate antagonist, naloxone can selectively block the DA induced inhibition of the bursting activity pattern of the RPal or Br-type neuron. The dopamine inhibitory affect can also be blocked by haloperidol, a established dopamine receptor blocker.This work partially supported by a grant from the National Academy of Sciences and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences awarded to G.B.S. The effect ofListeria monocytogenes lipids on immune response to T-dependent and T-independent antigens

Summary The administration ofListeria monocytogenes lipids augmented the humoral immune response to ovalbumin (OVA), polyvinyl pyrrolidone andE. coli lipopolysaccharide, but failed to support the induction of delayed hypersensitivity to OVA.This study was supported by the Polish Academy of Sciences (grant No. 10.5).     

Synthesis of trypsin inhibitor CMTI III from squash seeds (Cucurbita maxima)

Summary Using the solid-phase procedure, a 29-peptide cross-linked by three disulphide bridges was synthesized. The synthetic product was shown to be identical with the trypsin inhibitor CMTI III from squash seeds (Cucurbita maxima).Acknowledgments. The effect of the anabolic steroid stanozolol on tissue plasminogen activator activity and plasmin inhibition in the rat

Summary The anabolic steroid stanozolol administered orally in male Sprague-Dawley rats induced a dose- and time-dependent increase in tissue plasminogen activator activity. The increase was highest in lung, lowest in heart, and intermediate in aorta and kidney. A slight increase in plasmin inhibition was noted only in the heart.This study was partially supported by a grant from the Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis Research Committee of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.     

The concentration of high molecular weight kininogen antigen in homogenates of various human tissues

Summary The concentration of high molecular weight kininogen, measured in human tissue homogenates, was 2–3 times higher in kidneys, adrenals and thyroid than in homogenates of lung, heart, liver and spleen. No measurable quantities of this protein were found in homogenates of brain and skeletal muscles.This work was supported by a grant from the Department of Medical Sciences of Polish Academy of Sciences.     

Presence of natural killer cells in Peyer's patches of the mouse

Summary Natural cell-mediated cytotoxicity of normal murine Peyer's patch cells against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma was found in a short-term⁵¹Cr release assay. Effect of beta-adrenergic blockade on intramuscular triglyceride mobilization during exercise

The generality of the nitroso-glyoxylate reaction: Conversion ofp-nitronitrosobenzene to the hydroxamic acid

Summary The reaction of glyoxylic acid withp-nitronitrosobenzene (1b) in dilute aqueous solution gave the hydroxamic acid (2b) as the major detectable product. The kidney and fibrinolysis in man

Zusammenfassung Während Nierenoperationen vorgenommene Messungen ergaben, dass eine in der Funktion stark eingeschränkte Niere weniger Urokinase in den Urin ausscheidet, ohne dass jedoch die fibrinolytische Aktivität im Venenblut zunimmt. Es wird daraus geschlossen, dass die Nieren keine erheblichen Mengen Plasminogen-aktivierender Stoffe an das Blut abgeben.

Inhibition of new blood vessel formation in mice by systemic administration of human rib cartilage extract

Summary 1 M HCl-guanidine extract of human funnel chest rib cartilage administered i.v. to mice decreased specifically vasoproliferation induced by intradermal injection of allogeneic murine lymphocytes.Acknowledgments. Effect of the juvenoid methoprene on the hemolymph composition of the cabbage maggotDelia radicum (Diptera: Anthomyiidae)

Summary Treatment of post-feeding larvae of the cabbage maggotDelia radicum with methoprene did not affect the capacity of the insect to pupate, but suppressed eclosion to the adult stage. The concentration of hemolymph trehalose was significantly decreased by methoprene treatment, although hemolymph protein and amino nitrogen levels were unaffected.19 December 1986The authors are grateful to D. Fibrinolytic system in the dog with experimental renal (goldblatt) hypertension

Résumé Nous avons constaté, au cours de l'hypertension arterielle produite chez le chien d'après la technique deGoldblatt, l'inhibition de la fibrinolyse des euglobulines, l'augmentation considérable de fibrinogène et de plasminogène. L'intervention chirurgicale de contrôle produisit seulement une augmentation moindre de fibrinogène, sans inhibition de la fibrinolyse.

Taste responsiveness of the transplanted supernumerary leg in the fleshflySarcophaga bullata

Summary Ectopic legs were produced on the abdomen of the fleshflySarcophaga bullata by transplantation of prothoracic leg imaginal discs. Gamete formation reflects the sexual pheromone hierarchy ofDictyostelium giganteum

Summary Sexual development inDictyostelium giganteum begins with the appearance of small, amoeboid gametes that fuse to produce mainly binucleate cells which differentiate into zygote giant cells. The data presented here show that the number of gametes produced by each strain (WS589>WS606>WS607>WS588) is directly related to its position in this hierarchy.This work was supported by a grant (A6807) from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.     

Effects of duration of gonadectomy,sex and age on adrenal steroid 5α-reductase activity in the rat

Summary Within 6–8 weeks, gonadectomy in male and female rats leads to an increase in adrenal 5-steroid reductase activity. However, long-term post-orchiectomy enzyme activity decreases to the control level and this effect is not related to the age of animals.Supported in part by grant No.564/VI from Polish Academy of Sciences. Biochemical divergence between cavernicolous and marine Sphaeromidae and the Mediterranean salinity crisis

Summary Allozymic variation in proteins encoded by 14 loci was analyzed in 3 cavernicolousMonolistra and in 2 marineSphaeroma species. Genetic distance data, high levels of heterozygosity and the divergence time calculations support the hypothesis thatMonolistra diverged from its Sphaeroma-like marine ancestor during the Messinian, in connection with the Mediterranean salinity critis.This research was supported by the National Research Council, Italy, grant No. 77.01490.04, and by funds of the Faculty of Sciences, University of Rome.
