Free flow electrophoresis of isolated secretory granules from bovine neurohypophyses

Zusammenfassung Sekretorische Granula aus der Neurohypophyse von Rindern wurden durch Ultrzentrifugierung isoliert. Frei-Fluss Elektrophorese dieser Partikel zeigte, dass sie eine negative Ladung besitzen. Ca⁺⁺ und Na⁺ verminderten die Mobilität der Granula im elektrischen Feld.     

Evidence for in vitro release of neurophysin by the rat pineal gland

Summary Cultured pineal ependymal cells from rat fetuses release into their incubation media immunoreactive neurophysin. The presence of neurophysin was assessed by radioimmunoassay. The culture medium was found to contain 440 pg neurophysin per mg protein.     

Internalization of polypeptide hormones and receptor recycling

Conclusion The insulin receptor is an integral protein of the plasma membrane of the cell. It is composed of two subunits: an subunit, which binds the hormone, and a subunit which is a tyrosine specific protein kinase capable of undergoing autophosphorylation. These independent subunits are synthesized by way of a higher molecular weight single chain precursor and thus are the product of a single gene^{29, 49, 85} localized to chromosome 19^{29, 91}. Assuming that the insulin receptor is synthesized in the same fashion as other integral membrane glycoproteins, then the nucleus, the rough endoplasmic reticulum, and the Golgi apparatus are involved in its biosynthesis. Further, there must be some form of transport of the mature receptor subunits to the plasma membrane where they are inserted.By contrast, the endocytotic route involves coated pits, coated vesicles, large clear vesicles or endosomes, multivesicular bodies and other lysosomal forms. In addition, it is possible that some other as yet unidentified organelle is involved in recycling (fig. 8). At the present time, with respect to the insulin receptor, the biosynthetic pathway and the endocytotic pathway appear to be separate. Further, it does not appear that either pathway, i. e. synthesis or endocytosis, exerts a regulatory function over the other.

Zusammenfassung Inseln adulter Wistarratten wurden auf Glasfaservlies auf Metallgitter unter den Bedingungen der Organkultur gezüchtet und der Einfluss der Inselzahl unter basalen und stimulierten Bedingungen auf die Insulinsekretion in 24 h-Perioden während der Kultivierung untersucht.     

A generalized homology correlation for various hormones and proteins

Résumé La calcitonine, la cholécystokinine, la motilin, la pancreozymine, le peptide inhibiteur gastrique, le peptide vasoactif, la gastrine, le glucagon, et la secretine sont comparables par leur composition en amino acides a l'hormone de croissance, à l'hormone luteinigène, la gonadotropine, au facteur de croissance nerveux, à l'hormone parathyroidienne, au lactogène du placenta, à la proinsuline, à la rénine et à la thyrotropine. Ces peptides proviennent probablement d'un génotype dont l'origine se trouve dans le système digestif.     

Ultrastructural correlation of water reabsorption in isolated rat cauda epididymidis

Summary Electron microscopic study was made on the water reabsorption of the epithelial cells of the rat cauda epididymidis. It was shown that when the epididymal duct was reabsorbing water at a maximal rate, widely dilated intercellular spaces were seen. It is suggested that the standing gradient model of water reabsorption first proposed for the gall bladder may also operate in the cauda epididymidis.This work was supported in part by the World Health Organization and grant number 158/254 of Hong Kong University.

Ouabain-sensitive fatty acid release from isolated fat cells

Résumé La mobilisation des acides gras libres (FFA) induite par les hormones lipolytiques dans les cellules adipeuses isolées est inhibée par l'adjonction d'ouabaÏne. Le transport des FFA hors de la cellule semble lié en partie à la pompe Na⁺-K⁺. Une hypothèse sur le mode d'action de l'ouabaÏne est discutée.

Somatostatin content and release of isolated pancreatic islets from obese-hyperglycemic mice

Summary The somatostatin content in pancreatic islets of obese-hyperglycemic mice was much lower than in the islets of normal mice. Also the release of somatostatin was decreased from the islets obtained from the obese-hyperglycemic mice. Tissue culture for 1 week changed neither the content of, nor the amount of somatostatin released from, the pancreatic islets.This work was supported by the Swedish Medical Research Council, Nordic Insulin Foundation, Swedish Diabetes Association, the Bergwalls stiftelse and the Anders Swärds stiftelse.     

Preparation of isolated cells from rat heart

Summary Suspensions of isolated cells from rat heart were prepared and the data for viability and yield are given. Glucose uptake by the cells was mediated by a carrier system.The technical assistance of Mr.E. T. Potter, Mr.K. D. Patel and Mr.M. Griffin is gratefully acknowledged.     

Two types of 5-hydroxytryptamine release from isolated blood platelets

Zusammenfassung Nach Einwirkung von Reserpin auf gewaschene, isolierte Thrombocyten werden neben 5-Hydroxytryptamin, 5-Hydroxyindolessigsäure und eine Substanz mit den Characteristika von N-Acetyl-5-hydroxytryptamin im Inkubationsmedium (modifizierte Tyrodelösung) gefunden. Das Phenyläthylaminderivat Ro 4-6861 setzt 5-Hydroxytryptamin ohne Bildung dieser Metabolite frei.     

The effects of dopamine on renin release in the isolated perfused rat kidney

Summary In the isolated and perfused kidney of the rat, the stimulant effect of dopamine on renin release is blocked by propanolol and not by haloperidol. This suggests that the release of renin induced by dopamine is due to the activation of \-receptors.
