Summary (1) Experiments on isolated perfused suprarenals of cattle have shown that the acetylcholine-induced release of catechol amines, but not that of phenylethylamine, is dependent on calcium, since a perfusion with calcium-free Tyrode's solution abolishes the action of acetylcholine and not that of phenylethylamine. (2) Inincubation experiments with isolated chromaffin granules, calcium produces a dose-dependent, significant release of catechol amines even in physiological concentrations (2.5 mM). (3) Acetylcholine does not release catechol amines from isolated granules, either in the presence or in the absence of calcium.

Humoral autoregulation of blood flow and blood pressure

Zusammenfassung Vasoaktive Substanzen im arteriellen Blut können charakteristische Reaktionen des lokalen Strömungswiderstandes hervorrufen. Die einfachsten Beispiele dieser humoralen Autoregulation können durch intraarterielle Infusion von Acetylcholin (Autoregulation der Strömung) oder Noradrenalin (Autoregulation des Drucks) demonstriert werden. Es wird angenommen, dass der humoralen Autoregulation Bedeutung bei der normalen und pathologischen Kreislaufregulation zukommt.

This is demonstrated by the fact that body size, which was varied in dummy experiments, enters into these mechanisms differentially.

Post-irradiation induced sensitization of inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation by iodoacetamide

Zusammenfassung Zugabe von Iodazetamid während und nach der Bestrahlung von isolierten Lebermitochondrien der Ratte sensibilisiert die strahleninduzierte Hemmung der oxydativen Phosphorylierung. Die Nachbehandlung lässt einen latenten Strahlenschaden sichtbar werden, der selber vermutlich in einer Produktion latenter ATPase besteht. Es ist wahrscheinlich, dass die bekannte strahlensensibilisierende Wirkung von Iodacetamid bei Lebewesen und Zellen auf dieser Hemmung der ATP-Produktion beruht, welche Erholungsprozesse erschwert.

Einfluss von Dichlorisoproterenol (DCI) auf die Infusionstoxizität einiger Herzglykoside

Summary In experiments of infusion made on guineapigs, Dichlorisoproterenol was injected after the appearance of the first symptoms of toxicity in the ECG. It reduced the toxicity of convallatoxol, g-strophanthin and lanatosid C, but it was not quite effective against digoxin and digitoxin.

Zusammenfassung Die Geschwindigkeit der Verteilung und Fixierung des Selenharnstoff-⁷⁵Se wurde in diversen Rattenorganen in vivo und bei Stoffwechselzeiten von 6 h bis zu 14 Tagen untersucht. Die Selenharnstoffmengen varierten zwischen 0,4 und 3,0 mg pro Tier.

Sulfamides et granulations de Heinz

Summary In vitro, experiments on sulfonamides show that these substances are without action on the red cells, in respect to the formation of Heinz's corpuscles, at the blood concentration generally obtained in therapeutic practice. In vivo, the presence of Heinz's granules was noted after the injection of large sulfanilamide doses in the white mouse, but not after the administration of sulfopyridine and sulfathiazole. Therapeutical doses of all these drugs did not give rise to Heinz's corpuscles in several patients.

Cleavage of active peptides by a lung enzyme

Zusammenfassung Ein Enzym (Angiotensin I «converting enzyme» oder Kininase II; DH) wurde aus Schweinelungen isoliert und gereinigt. DH splatet Dipeptide vom Carboxyterminus der Peptidsubstrate mit Einschluss von Bradykinin, Angiotensin I, B-Kette von Insulin und¹⁴C-DNS-Gly-Gly-Gly. Zu den besten Inhibitoren des Enzyms gehören zwei kürzlich synthetisierte Peptide sowie Glutathion und Insulin. Die Experimente deuten auf ein einziges Enzym hin, das alle erwähnten Substrate hydrolysiert.

Summary Report on experiments in which parakeets (Melopsittacus undulatus) were inoculated with extracts from the stool of patients with hepatitis. Transitory disease symptoms could be found in some animals. Microscopically a certain degree of degeneration and necrosis of the liver cells could be demonstrated.In another series the attempt was made to produce a hepatic dystrophia in parakeets by means of special feeding (sweet-pea seeds). The results varied; in some cases a slight necrosis of the liver occurred.

Inhibitory activity of benzoyl hydrazides and hydrazine on the growth of influenza virus in chick embryo lung tissue culture

Zusammenfassung Hydrazin, wie auch verschiedene Benzoylhydrazide, hemmen das Wachstum des Influenzavirus in Kulturen embryonalen Hühnerlungengewebes. Anthranilsäurehydrazid konnte die Virusvermehrung bis 6 h nach Viruszugabe hemmen.

Effect of reserpine (serpasil®) on increased oxygen consumption induced by triiodothyronine

Résumé Chez des cobayes rendus hypothyro?diens au moyen de ladl-triiodothyrosine, la Réserpine diminue la consommation d'oxygène. Zusammenfassung Bei der Mäusetuberkulose war die kombinierte Therapie von Isoniazid mit 4-Aminobenzoesäure (PABA) (3 mg/Tag/Tier) wirksamer als diejenige von Isoniazid allein. Bei niedrigerer PABA-Dosis wurde der Synergismus nicht nachgewiesen.PABA allein verkürzt die mittlere Überlebenszeit bei tuberkulösen Mäusen.

Properties of granules that contain kallikrein and renin

Zusammenfassung Subzelluläre Partikel, die Renin und Kallikrein enthalten, wurden durch Differentialzentrifugation aus homogenisierter Submaxillardrüse der männlichen weissen Maus angereichert. Durch Zonenzentrifugation wurde die relative Renin-Konzentration in der oberen Schicht des Rohrzucker-Dichtegradienten erhöht, während sich Kallikrein in der unteren Schicht anhäufte. Vorbehandlung der Partikel (granules) mit Glutaraldehyd und Lauryl-Alkohol stabilisierte sie gegen Lyse bei niedrigen Temperaturen.

The effect of splenectomy on the radiation disease of in utero irradiated foetus

Zusammenfassung Eine Splenektomie 2 h nach einer Ganzkörperbestrahlung von 250 R führt bei graviden Muttertieren zu keiner Verbesserung der fötalen überlebensrate. In Analogie zum recovery factor der gesunden Milz darf angenommen werden, dass sich in der bestrahlten Milz ein hochmolekularer, diaplazentar nicht diffusionsfähiger Stoff bildet.

Untersuchungen über die alkylierende Wirkung von14C-Methylnitrosoharnstoff und 1-14C-Äthylnitrosoharnstoff

Summary Alkylation of RNA from brain, liver and kidney in rats after application of¹⁴C-methylnitrosourea and 1-¹⁴C-ethylnitrosourea was investigated. After administration of¹⁴C-methylnitrosourea the amount of 7-methylguanine in the RNA of brain and liver is about the same. Analogic experiments using 1-¹⁴C-ethylnitrosourea showed no alkylation of the RNA in the organs investigated. This leads to the conclusion that there is no direct correlation between the alkylation of RNA and organotropic carcinogenic activity of the compounds studied.
