How to learn English well, to some degree, depends on the English teaching. How to teach English well is relative with the characteristics of English teacher. In this article, some Characteristics of effective English teacher are to be analyzed.     

Asynchronous and Synchronous Communication in College English Writing in Web-based Learning Environment

In web-based learning environment,College English writing has always been a thorny issue.Here both asynchronous and synchronous communications in college English writing mean the new interactive teaching belief. This paper attempts to do the blending of two in the traditional writing learning and teaching in college English in order to promote a more flexible,efficient and interactive learning environment in accordance with students' interests and needs.     

Singlish,A Handicap or A Facilitator

Singapore is a multi-cultural and multi-lingual society with four different major languages （Chinese,English,Malay and Tamil）. Each language or dialect exerts its influence on the way English is spoken. It is too difficult to maintain the purity of English. English spoken in Singapore would branch into various types of Englishes and produce less universal forms,and people would inevitably encounter a lack of communication in English,which has been becoming more and more international.Different groups of English users and their reaction to various forms of Englishes determine the range of Englishes and produce a norm preventing varieties of English which are incomprehensible to others.     

On Employing the Appropriate Error Correction Strategies to Promote Students’English learning in TEFL

Learning English as a foreign language is a step-by-step process, during which Chinese students will inevitably make some errors. It is important for teachers to know when and how to correct students＇ errors. By employing error correction skillfully and appropriately, we can develop the students＇ self-confidence and self-esteem. This paper mainly discusses the interaction and collaboration learning in task-based learning, which has been proved to be scientific and effective, is advocated in English learning and teaching. Accordingly, the self-correction with teacher＇s help and the peer correction are the most effective ways for students＇ error correction.

For the time being, there are still no standardized medical English teaching textbooks and reference books, with the result that numerous doubts and puzzles may have sprung up now and then. But now, with the dramatic spurt in technology, there is a new device ——corpus-based approach ——corpora of naturally occurring texts has moved from margins to occupy the center ground as the basic resource for language research. This study is to find out the possible objective means of identifying the core medical English words and phrases through their frequencies and the feasible ways of erasing the doubts and puzzles from the minds of teachers and learuers by concordancing. In this study, the use of concordancing in medical English learning and teaching was discussed.     

Corpus-based Analysis on the Use of Tense in Texts of Different Styles

The style in which the language is used may influence the use of different tenses. English used in news reports and in scientific andtechnological materials are different in style; therefore, the tense used in each is also different. The present paper compares the tense use in the USACorpus with that in T-Corpus, aiming to find out their way of tense use that may represent their own stylistic features.     

ESP/EST in Theory and Practice

Two developments in the methodology of English teaching have been seen. One is the transition from ELT(English Language Teaching) to ESP(English for Special Purposes)teaching. The other is the transition from linguistic forms and syntactic structures to communicative activities. This essay discusses the classification of ESP/EST, argues for the purpose of ESP/EST teaching and GPE(General Purpose English)teaching. It is then suggested that the characteristics of objectives between ESP/EST and GPE should be differentiated. In the second part, the essay takes as its starting point two kinds of EST courses offered in institutions of higher learning in China. One has the nature of in-service language teaching. The other deals with the EST-majoring programme. The essay seeks to identify what are the main features of the EST-majoring programme, and stresses its practical nature of training and the concern with the learners' communicative competence.     

Developing College Students’ English Speaking Skills in Chinese Context

As one of the four important communication skills,speaking has long been neglected in the language teaching,while oral English teaching has always been the weak points in college English education.Since China began to reform and open the door to the outside world,oral English becomes more and more important.However,the traditional oral English education failed to meet the demand of social development,for many graduates couldn’t communicate in English smoothly.This is due to the inappropriateness of traditional oral English education.The thesis is to discuss the present condition of Chinese students in oral classroom and sets up a new teaching model.In this part the new model is discussed in detail from the perspective of students,teaching materials,teacher,and teaching method.

Is It Practical to Adopt Communicative Language Teaching in China

Nanoparticle coagulation and dispersion in a rotating curved pipe

Nanoparticulate flow in a curved pipe differs to that in a straight pipe, and is of scientific and technological interest. The length of flow path within a curved pipe is generally short, and the fluid experiences a centrifugal force which significantly changes the particle distribution both inside and downstream of the pipe. This phenomenon is more obvious when particle coagulation occurs. An Analysis of the Kinetic Features of Scissor Elevator Mechanism and Its Optimized Design

A mathematical model has been established for the research on scissor elevator for ship passenger stairs.The kinematical and kinetic simulation analyses were carried out with MATLAB/Simulink.The relative kinetic relation between hydraulic cylinder and other parts,as well as its rules of change has been found.A 3-D model of ship scissor elevator was established with Pro/E.The design of the mechanism was optimized in Pro/MECHANICA based on the findings from simulation analysis.Practice has proved that the design is scientific and reasonable and could serve as the theoretical guidance and reference for the design of scissor mechanism of other uses.     

The Use of Body Language in College

Nowadays,teachers are in great demand to organize the classes in English and create English-learning circumstances.However,with the limitation of students' vocabulary,teachers have to simplify their teaching language with the help of facial expressions and body movements.The possibility and the effect of using body language in teaching English will be further discussed.

A Brief Analysis of English Public Political Speaking from the Perspective of Structure and Strategies of Discourse

Discourse analysis is the study of how stretches of language considered in their full textual,the aim of discourse analysis is to explain how people construct and comprehend various coherent discourses. English public speaking occurs when one person speaks in English to an different types. Consequently,English public political speaking,the subject of this thesis,is one sub-component in terms of classification of content. This thesis intends to use the methods of discourse analysis to deal with English public political speaking. The analysis reveals that effective public speaker should employ consistent structure and strategies with the subject,content,purpose and situation of speech. This study is of a certain value in instructing how to be a good English public speaker and how to be an effective communicator in English.     

Application of TBA to Teaching English Vocabularies in Colleges

＂Vocabulary is of enormous importance in communication＂, however, in the context of college English teaching in China, although a lot of time and energy is spent on leaming and teaching vocabulary, the situation is far from being satisfactory. A scientific and effective way of vocabulary teaching and learning is strongly desired. This paper explores a comparatively new approach Task Based Approach （TBA） and its application to teaching English vocabularies in colleges. The emphasis of TBA is on learning by doing, which gets learners to do thing or complete tasks by using English.The apphcation of TBA to college English vocabulary teaching （CEVT） in this paper is an attempt that hopes to provide some practical reference value for the reform of college English Teaching （CET）.
