Zusammenfassung Nach Verabreichung von NSC-1026 (1-Amino-cyclopentan-carboxylsäure) erfolgt in normalen unbehandelten Ratten kontinuierlicher Blutzuckeranstieg, während in adrenalektomierten Tieren das Absinken deutlich ist. Im Leberglycogentest werden während der Behandlungszeit negative Werte gefunden.

Dominant lethal mutations induced by14C in mice

Summary The mutagenic potential of 1.0 Ci¹⁴C was evaluated in Swiss albino male mice by the dominant lethal assay. A significant increase in post-implantation loss was seen, the maximum being in the 3rd week after treatment.Authors express their thanks to University Grants Commission, New Delhi, for financial assistance.     

Protective effect of magnesium pemoline against lethal doses of X-irradiation

Effects of chloroiodoquine and lethal doses in various mouse strains]

Chloroiodoquine has been implied in numerous cases of myeloneuropathy in Japan, while in other countries although equally frequently used, only a few cases have been reported after treatment with this drug. Studies on the effect of chloroiodoquine in mice of various inbred strains or from crossings between sensitive and insensitive strains demonstrated a genetic predisposition of sensitivity to chloroiodoquine.     

Hemolymph proteins in an ascitic condition,induced by lethal1(3)gl tumorous tissue inDrosophila hydei

Summary Drosophila hydei larvae homozygous for the gene1(3)gl may survive to the age of 3 weeks, become bloated and be incapable of metamorphosis. Wild-type flies after the injection of a fragment of the1(3)gl disc, which has been previously culture in vivo for 40–500 days, also become bloated (ascitic reaction). In the hemolymph of both the advanced1(3)gl larvae and ascitic adult hosts the accumulation of a specific protein is observed.Acknowledgments. Influence of clonidine on experimental hypertension induced by cholinergic stimulation

Summary Hypertension may be induced by pharmacologic activation of central cholinergic receptors either indirectly, through the injection i.v. of physostigmine, or directly, through the injection i.v. of arecholine in anesthetized rats. Activation of peripheral preganglionic cholinergic receptors with dimethylphenylpiperazinium iodide (DMPP) also produced a hypertensive response. Pretreatment with various doses of clonidine caused inhibition of the pressor response to central cholinergic stimulation but was without effect on the response to ganglionic cholinergic stimulation.     

Radioprotection conferred by Corynebacterium parvum against the lethality caused by X irradiation at sublethal and lethal doses in the mouse]

Intraperitoneal injection of Corynebacterium parvum (C. parvum) into Balb/c mice produces a protection against toxicity or lethality provoked by ionizing radiation (750 R and 950 R). Survivals reaching nearly 90 days have been recorded.

Differential stimulation of signaling pathways initiated by Edg-2 in response to lysophosphatidic acid or sphingosine-1-phosphate

Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) and sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) are produced during cell activation and have multiple effects on cells. A family of seven transmembrane-spanning domain G-protein-coupled receptors, named Edg, mediate these effects of LPA and S1P. In this study, transient overexpression of Edg-2 sensitized MG63 human osteosarcoma cells to both LPA- and S1P-mediated stimulation of fibronectin matrix deposition and actin stress fiber formation. Both lipids were active in the 1-20 nM concentration range on cells transfected with Edg-2 as compared to the 10-200 nM range on mock-transfected cells. The signaling pathway for matrix deposition by Edg-2-transfected cells was Rho dependent. Overexpression of Edg-2 also caused a tenfold decrease in the concentration of either LPA or S1P that activated MAPKinase (Erkl/2) in MG63 cells. LPA- or S1P-stimulated activation of Erkl/2 was Gi dependent. These results indicate that, in MG63 cells, Edg-2 mediates actin stress fiber formation, fibronectin matrix assembly, and MAPKinase activation in response to either LPA or S1P.     

Role of serotonin in the diffuse inhibitory controls induced by nociceptive stimulation

In the anaesthetized Rat, the entire population of dorsal horn convergent neurones is differentially affected by a noxious stimulus: while exciting the segmental pool, it strongly inhibits the remaining population. The inhibitory effects, which involve supraspinal mechanisms, are reduced to a great extent in parachlorophenylalanine pretreated animals. The role of raphé-spinal serotonergic pathways in nociception is discussed.     

Lesions in folic acid metabolism induced by primidone

Résumé Les auteurs ont étudié le mécanisme de la toxicité de la primidone (Mysoline) chez certains microorganismes. Ces recherches montrent que le métabolisme de l'acide folique est inhibé par le primidone et cela en trois étapes: (a) la réduction de l'acide folique en acide dihydrofolique, (b) le métabolisme des ptéridines nonconjugées et (c) la phosphorylation de la thymidine.

Generalized inhibition of spinal reflexes induced by cutaneous nerve stimulation in unrestrained cats

Riassunto Nell'animale integro non anestetizzato la stimolazione a bassa frequenza delle fibre cutanee del gruppo II produce una riduzione generalizzata del tono posturale e dei riflessi spinali mono- e polisinaptici, che si accompagna di solito, ma non necessariamente, ad un quadro di sincronizzazione elettroencefalografica. In particolari condizioni sperimentali la stimolazione cutanea suddetta può anche precipitare il quadro di sonno desincronizzato.

Inhibition of tumorigenesis by topical application of low doses of vitamin A acid and fluorouracil

Zusammenfassung Reihenuntersuchung zur Prüfung der Beeinflussung der Tumorgenese beim Kaninchen durch Vitamin A und Fluorouracil. Mit Hautbepinselung von Dimethylbenzanthracen erzeugte Tumoren werden sowohl durch Vitamin A wie durch die Kombination Vitamin A+5-FU in Wachstum und Neubildung beeinflusst.
