Zusammenfassung Frischgefrorene Gewebesektionen verschiedener Gewebe wurden in Kalium-Eisen-Cyanid bei pH 5,2 inkubiert; dabei wurde eine präzise und einzigartige Färbung nur der Zellnuklei beobachtet. Die Ursache dieser selektiven Kernfärbung ist nicht verständlich, doch stellt sie höchstwahrscheinlich eine Färbung von Ferro-Verbindungen in den Nuklei dar.

Summary The reaction of glyoxylic acid withp-nitronitrosobenzene (1b) in dilute aqueous solution gave the hydroxamic acid (2b) as the major detectable product. Summary Following topical application of14C-labeled 1,3-bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea (BCNU, carmustine) to the skin of mice radioactivity was found in all viscera and tissues examined. Summary A novel lipoxygenase was partially purified from the gorgonian coralPseudoplexaura porosa and was found to be specific for arachidonic acid. This soluble enzyme catalyzed the formation of 15-hydroperoxy-eicosatetraenoic acid (15-HPETE) from arachidonic acid.This investigation was supported by PHS grant No. CA32395 awarded by the National Cancer Institute and by PHS Research Carreer Development Award No. ES00120 to MDC awarded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, DHHS. Zusammenfassung Das Überleben der von der eigenen Mutter und von stammesfremden «Ammen» gesäugten Jungen wurde untersucht an Mäusen der Stämme AKR/Sp, PL/Sp und C57BL/Sp. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die genetische Herkunft der Säuglinge wie auch andere, nicht genetisch bedingte Einflüsse der Mutter auf die Jungen in utero für das Überleben der Jungen ausschlaggebend ist.

Summary Evidence is presented that chromosomal variation inPeromyscus results from 1. addition of heterochromatic short arms to acrocentric chromosomes, and 2. pericentric inversions. Zusammenfassung Das antitumoraktive Protein-Antibiotikum Neocarzinostatin wurde mit Dithiothreit in flüssigem Ammoniak reduziert und mit Chloressigsäure alkyliert. Tryptische Spaltung des tetra-S-carboxymethylierten Proteins ergab 5 Fragmente. Die Sequenz von 25 Aminosäureresten im tyrosinhaltigen Fragment H3 wurde durchEdman-Abbau im automatisierten Sequenator ermittelt.

Summary An investigation of the Guyana plantSimarouba amara Aubl. (Simaroubaceae) for antineoplastic quassinoids led to isolation and structural determination of the new quassinoids 2-acetylglaucarubine (1a) and 13,18-dehydroglaucarubinone (2). The previously known 2-acetylglaucarubinone (3a) and glaucarubinone (3b) were also obtained. The new quassinoid2 was found significantly to inhibit growth of the murine lymphocytic leukemia P388.Antineoplastic agents 59. For part 58 refer to M. T. Edgar, G.R. Pettit and T.H. Smith, J. org. Summary The defensive secretion of the opilionidPhalangium opilio contains 1,4-naphthoquinone and 6-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone. Zusammenfassung In Analysen von Gehirn-Zymogrammen verschiedener neurologischer Mäusemutanten wurden Abnormalitäten in Form von Esterasedefiziten gefunden. Da solche neulich auch für die multiple Sklerose des Menschen beschrieben wurden, wird vorgeschlagen, unspezifische Esterasen als signifikant für den normalen Myelinanabolismus zu bewerten.

Zusammenfassung Die gegebenen Befunde lassen vermuten, dass neonatale Thymektomie und/oder Infektion mit LDH-Virus einen Effekt auf eine Anzahl von Faktoren wie LDH-Plasma-Spiegel, Gewichtserhöhung und Lebensdauer in Mäusen hervorrufen können. Der Virustiter im Plasma ist vom Zeitpunkt der Infektion abhängig.

Summary A precursor of plasma albumin in man was identified in liver obtained from cadaver renal transplant donors. After 30 min incubation with14C-(U) leucine, most of the labeled immunoreactive albumin was identified as proalbumin, as was evident from its characteristic elution profile on DEAE cellulose 52. After an additional 30 min incubation with unlabeled leucine (60 min total), no precursor from could be identified and the label coeluted with serum albumin.
