Summary Sex differences of high significance in the marrow weight relative to femur volume, as well as to body weight, were found in adult rats. A positive significant correlation was found between the femur volume and the marrow volume in both sexes, while a negative significant correlation between femur density and the marrow content (mg/mm3) exists only in male rats.  相似文献

The different body fluid compartments in normally watered and 4-day water-deprived goats of Rajasthan desert, India, were measured in autumn. The goats maintained plasma volume and extracellular fluid volume, but lost gut and cell water considerably under the experimental conditions; indicating that the maintenance of the fluidity of the blood has priority over the body's other fluid requirements in this desert-adapted species during water deprivation.  相似文献

Summary The administration of monosodium glutamate (MSG) at a dose of 4 g/kg in 5-day-old fowl or 5 daily injections of MSG (total dose 20 g/kg) in 1- to 5-day-old fowl did not affect body growth in either male or female domestic fowl. Neither MSG treatment schedule affected either testis weight or the circulating concentration of luteinizing hormone (LH). A small, but significant decrease in the plasma concentration of growth hormone (GH) was observed in female chicks which had received daily MSG injections.Acknowledgments. The stomach gavage of fat (triglycerides) in the fasting newborn Rat induced a marked increase in the plasma concentration of immunoreactive calcitonin after 30 and 60 mn. Calcium chloride given by the same route at the dose of 20 mg calcium per kg body weight had a poor effect on calcitonin secretion. This stimulation was probably mediated through some gastro-intestinal hormone that has to be uncovered.  相似文献

Summary Pulse frequencies for several species of crayfish were collected over a range of body weight from 10–5–103 g. Pulse rate varies in crayfish as (body weight)–0,12; the size of the animal therefore influences the pulse rate much less than in warm blooded vertebrata, but in the same degree as in some mollusca. It is supposed that the similarity between crayfish, snails and mussels is related to their open circulatory system.

分析比格犬MC3R基因突变与体重性状的关系。抽取112只比格犬血液,记录体重数据,然后提取DNA;采用PCR-RFLP技术对MC3R基因G291A位点进行分析,并克隆测序。测序结果表明,291位点表现为G、A二个等位基因和GG、GA及AA三种基因型;统计分析结果显示AA型犬与GG型犬体重比较差异显著(P〈0.05)。犬MC3R基因突变可致体重增加,可作为犬体重标记的候选基因。  相似文献

Confocal microscopy reveals that the anti-Bcl-2 antibody (pAb) is able to diffuse across the plasma membrane of the fat body cell line IPLB-LdFB from the insect Lymantria dispar, demonstrating the presence of Bcl-2-like molecules in the cytoplasm. Immunoperoxidase procedure confirms the cellular localization. Furthermore, an immunoprecipitation corresponding to a molecular weight of 29 KDa is observed with western blot analysis using the anti-Bcl-2 pAb. Cytofluorimetric experiments show that anti-Bcl-2 pAb counteracts 2-deoxy-d-ribose-induced apoptosis and provokes morphological changes in the insect cell line, i.e. a reduction in cell size, the disappearance of the vacuola and changes in shape. At the same time, the antibody provokes mitochondrial membrane depolarization, and N-acetyl-l-cysteine is unable to reconstitute the physiological conditions. The present findings suggest that Bcl-2-like proteins play a main role in maintaining of the integrity of cellular components, e.g. mitochondria, rather than in controlling programmed cell death. Summary The biochemical development of the fetal brain in relation to maternal vitamin A restriction was studied in rats. The vitamin A status of pregnant rats was varied by supplying low, medium and adequate amounts (6, 40, and 100 g retinol/day/kg body weight, respectively) of vitamin A during pregnancy and suckling. The maternal vitamin A restriction caused an altered brain development in terms of tissue weight, DNA, RNA and protein levels, and biosynthesis of DNA and protein from [3H]-thymidine and [3H]-leucine, respectively. A dose-dependent effect of maternal vitamin A restriction on the metabolism of DNA, RNA and protein was noticed in the developing fetal brain of rats.  相似文献

The effect of dried oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) on cholesterol (C) content in serum, in lipoproteins and in liver, and on the activity of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase in liver microsomes, was studied in male rats (strain Wistar, initial body weight 75 g) fed on low-cholesterol (9 mg/100 g) and high-cholesterol (0.3%) diets. Addition of 5% oyster mushroom to both diets reduced significantly the C-content in serum (by 30%), in very-low- and low-density lipoproteins (in a 11 ratio to the decrease of total serum C) and in liver (by 50%), as well as the activity of HMG-CoA reductase (by more than 30%).  相似文献

Obese postmenopausal female volunteers were given timed daily oral dosages of bromocriptine, and tested for reduction of body fat stores. This dopamine agonist has been shown to reset circadian rhythms that are altered in obese animals and to reduce body fat levels in several animal models. The participants were instructed not to alter their existing exercise and eating behavior during treatment. Skinfold measurements were taken on 33 subjects as indices of body fat. The measurements (e.g., suprailiac) were reduced after six weeks by about 25%, which represents a reduction of 11.7% of the total body fat. These dramatic decreases in body fat, which are equivalent to that produced by severe caloric restriction, were accompanied by more modest reductions of body weight (2.5%), indicating a possible conservation of protein that is usually lost as a consequence of such caloric restriction. The effects of bromocriptine treatment on body fat and hyperglycemia were also examined in non-insulin dependent diabetics being treated with oral hypoglycemics (7 subjects) or insulin (7 subjects). Total body fat was reduced by 10.7% and 5.1% in diabetics on oral hypoglycemics and insulin, respectively, without any significant reductions in body weight.Hyperglycemia was reduced in most of the 15 diabetic subjects treated leading to euglycemia and even cessation of hypoglycemic drugs in 3 of the 7 subjects during 4–8 weeks of bromocriptine treatment. These findings support the hypothesis that obesity and type II diabetes may be treated effectively with bromocriptine when administered at the proper times and dosages.This is a process patented by Louisiana State University and licensed to Ergo, Inc., Newport, Rhode island. Summary L-lysine administration to male weanling rats at a dose of 110.4 mg (25% LD50) per 100 g body weight per day for 15 days reduced the liver total ascorbic acid level. The biosynthesis as well as the degradation of L-ascorbic acid was diminished under these conditions. The fall in liver total ascorbic acid level after L-lysine administration was ascribed to its reduced synthesis.Acknowledgment. Summary After intravenous injection of a35S-labelled heparinoid (N-formyl-chitosan-polysulfuric acid ester) into rabbits, a highly purified clearing factor preparation was obtained from the blood plasma. Energy expenditure was investigated in 15 patients with liver cirrhosis and 20 healthy controls by three methods: indirect calorimetry, anthropometry using the Harris-Benedict equation and bioelectrical impedance analysis. The energy expenditure was expressed in kcal/day, kcal/kg BW/day (BW — body weight), kcal/kg LBM/day (LBM — lean body mass, derived by bioelectrical impedance analysis) or in kcal/m2/day. We did not find statistical differences between values of resting energy expenditure obtained in patients with cirrhosis of the liver and healthy controls whichever method we used. We also did not find statistical differences between values obtained by indirect calorimetry, anthropometry and bioelectrical impedance analysis. There was a significant correlation between indirect calorimetry and anthropometry in both groups. We found significant correlations between indirect calorimetry and anthropometry, and between indirect calorimetry and bioelectrical impedance analysis, in the control group only. We can conclude that (1) resting energy expenditure of patients with cirrhosis of the liver is not changed when compared with healthy controls, and (2) bioelectrical impedance is a useful method to calculate body composition from which energy expenditure is derived; however, it gives an appropriate result only in healthy people, and only approximate values in patients with cirrhosis.  相似文献

To find out whether physiological concentrations of cholecystokinin (CCK), a gastrointestinal hormone in mammals, are also active in chickens, the pancreatic amylase secretory response to CCK-8 was investigated in vitro. Rat pancreatic acini responded to the physiological concentration of CCK-8, but in chickens amylase release was induced at a concentration of CCK-8 1000 times higher than that observed in rats. In another experiment, biliary flow was tested with several doses of CCK-8. The bile flow was stimulated in a dose-dependent fashion, but a significant enhancement was not obtained at a concentration of 0.5 g CCK-8/kg body weight, which was considerably higher than physiological ones. It is concluded that endogeneous CCK does not have an important role in the digestive system in the chicken.  相似文献
