Influence of photoinduction on aminotransferase activity in biloxi soybean,Glycine max., L., Merr.

Summary Increasing number of photoinductive cycles markedly influenced the activity of 5 different aminotransferase systems as compared to non-inductive cycles. The activity was related to the requirement of the corresponding aminoacid synthesised during the process of photoinduction in the leaves.

Summary The isolation of crystalline intermedine fromConoclinium, coelestinum (L.) DC., notmixed with the diastereoisomeric congener base lycopsamine, is reported.E. compositifolium Walt. yielded the usual mixture of intermedine and lycopsamine; fromE. altissimum L. rinderine and 7-angelylheliotridine have been isolated.

Examination of D. brownii, a stock-poison of Western Canada, revealed that the principal toxin was methyllycaconitine: a potent neuromuscular blocking agent which appears to act competitively at nicotinic receptors.

Zusammenfassung Querschnitte der Achse zeigen, dass das Xylem nur aus kurzzelligen Tracheiden mit einfachen Tüpfeln besteht. Es ist mehr oder weniger gleichförmig in radiären Platten angeordnet und durch ein- bis zweizellige Markstrahlen getrennt, die Gerbstoffe enthalten. Anstelle ausgeprägter Leitbündel können ein breites und zwei schmale Segmente unterschieden werden. Phloemelemente sind nicht vorhanden.
