Zusammenfassung Es wurde der Einfluss von Antibiotica, von homologem Knochenmark und von Cysteamin in der Entwicklung der im Munde desMesocricetus aureatus durch totale Bestrahlung des Körpers produzierten nekrotischen Ulcera studiert. Es ergibt sich, dass bei den untersuchten Läsionen der bakterielle Faktor eine wichtige Rolle spielt.     

Oestrogen antagonisms: the effects of various steroids on the uterine growth produced in mice by oestriol

Zusammenfassung Das in juvenilen Mäusen durch Oestriol (100 µg) stimulierte Uteruswachstum wurde durch Testosteronpropionat blockiert. Mit Cortisonacetat, Cortisolacetat, Deoxycorticosteronacetat und Progesteron wurde keine solche Wirkung erzielt.     

A study of the accuracy of scale graduations on a group of European astrolabes

Precision measurements have been made of the scales on a group of European astrolabes manufactured between c. 1450 and 1659. Little is known from documentary sources of the construction and scale-dividing methods used by late-medieval craftsmen. The measurements of the present group of twenty-four scales have been analysed statistically, so that the parameters of accuracy expected of them can be deduced. Scribing marks and other features give clear indications of how the scales were constructed.     

Experimental arthritis in the rabbit induced by group a streptococcal products

Zusammenfassung Intraartikuläre Injektion von Streptolysin-S-freien extrazellulären Produkten der Streptokokken Gruppe A verursacht eine zunächst akute, in der Folge aber subkutane Synovitis. Die Veränderungen gleichen denjenigen nach Injektion von Streptolollensonikaten, so dass angenommen wird, ausser Streptolysin S bedingen auch andere streptokokkale Faktoren eine Arthritis.

Effect of lymphokines produced in a grafted system on production of prostaglandins by macrophages]

Mice peritoneal macrophages cultured in vitro release a prostaglandin-like activity as evaluated by a bio-assay using Rat stomach fundus. The prostaglandin release is greatly increased when macrophages are incubated with the supernatant of mixed lymphocyte cultures between recipient and donor of a skin allograft. This phenomenon was found in all strains of Mice tested except C3H/HeJ Mice, a strain already known for its defective responsiveness to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS).     

Fever in the monkey produced by the direct action of pyrogen on the hypothalamus

Zusammenfassung Eine dosisabhängige Steigerung der Körpertemperatur wurde erzielt, wenn Pyrogen-Substanzen aus verschiedenen gram-negativen Bakterienstämmen stereotaktisch in den Hypothalamus nicht narkotisierter Affen injiziert wurden.
