Changes in molecular species of pepsinogens in the development of the chick.

The potential peptic activity of the chick forestomach increases rapidly at the time of hatching. Together with this, the electrophoretic pattern of the pepsinogens shifts to the adult type. These changes take place even under the complete starvation of a newly hatch chick.

Using Golgi's staining technique, we investigated some ganglion cells whose axons do not project out of the retina area. These axons, after following a short trajectory through the optic nerve fiber layer or through the 5th stratum of the inner plexiform layer (IPL), change their direction and end in the inner stratum of the IPL.

Utilization of ascorbic acid during post-embryonic development of chick skeletal muscle.

Ascorbic acid is utilized during the post-embryonic differentiation of skeletal muscle fibres in chick. While the fibres lose their heterogeneity with regard to ascorbic acid, they continue to exhibit differences in their metabolic rates in terms of the succinate dehydrogenase activity throughout life.
