The influence of general body size on the body proportions in man and other primates

Zusammenfassung Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit dem Einfluss der Sitzhöhe auf die relative Grösse der Kopfdurchmesser, der Gesichtshöhe, Nasenhöhe, Länge der Gliedmassen und deren Teile sowie der transversalen Durchmesser des Rumpfes. Sie stützt sich auf Massc, die an etwa 68 000 Individuen (Menschen und Affen) gemessen wurden. Bei Zunahme der Sitzhöhe weisen die nach der Rumpfhöhe berechneten Indizes in 95–98 % der Fälle eine progressive Abnahme auf. Zwischen beiden extremen Klassen der nach Sitzhöhe geordneten Bevölkerungen beträgt diese Abnahme ungefähr 5 % des durchschnittlichen Indexes; sie wurde aber mehr im einzelnen, den verschiedenen Körperteilen und Primatenbevölkerungen nach sowie in Beziehung mit eventuellem Geschlechtseinfluss berechnet. Auch in den durch Alter, Verpflegungsverhältnisse, Wanderzüge und Kreuzung verursachten Änderungen der Sitzhöhe kommt die negative Allometrie zum Ausdruck.

Effect of body temperature on intracellular pH

Zusammenfassung Zwischen dem extrazellulären pH und dem pH des gesamten Intrazellulärraumes besteht eine annähernd lineare Beziehung. Senkung der Körpertemperatur führt zu einer Erhöhung des pH _i , hat aber keinen Einfluss auf den Regressionskoeffizienten und damit auf die intrazelluläre Pufferkapazität.     

The influence of incubation temperature on the rate of human lymphocyte proliferation in vitro

Summary Using the FPG staining technique we have confirmed that incubation temperature has a marked effect on the proliferation rate of cultured lymphocytes. With 48 h-cultures the proportion of 2nd-cycle cells increases linearly over the temperature range 36–39°C. However the absolute size of the increase exhibits interdonor variability.We would like to acknowledge the assistance of the Commission of the European Communities for their provision of a travel grant.     

Modes of influence of vision on postural reactions associated with voluntary arm movements]

Postural changes associated with voluntary movements of the arm as observed during a positioning task, were studied on subjects standing upright on a force platform. Subjects performed the movements with either a normal visual field or without peripheral vision (tubular vision). Data analysis comprised the EMG activity of soleus and tibialis anterior and the displacement of the vertical component of the force applied to the platform. Average data of EMG indicate that the masking of the extrofoveal receptors increases the desactivation of soleus before the onset of the movement and provokes a burst of activity in the soleus 80 to 100 ms after the onset of the movement.

Summary Infusion of 1 g thyroxine into the left cerebral ventricle of the dog did not change body temperature at rest, but it caused significantly higher increases in T_re during physical exercise.

Summary The effect of NA injected into the lateral cerebral ventricle on T_c was blocked by alpha-adrenergic receptor blockers, but not by beta-receptor blockers, whereas the effect of systemically administered NA was blocked by i.p. administered beta-receptor blockers, but not by alpha-blockers.Acknowledgments.
