Summary Several undeca-, dodeca- and tridecapeptides, analogues of the naturally occurring methionyllysyl-bradykinin, have been synthesized. The biological activities of the new compounds on the isolated rat uterus, guinea-pig ileum and rabbit blood pressure are presented.

Typus. Es ist wahrscheinlich, dass die Windungen der beiden Filamente in der entgegengesetzten Richtung ranken.

Kompetitiver Antagonismus zwischen g-Strophanthin und Corticosteron an isolierten Streifen von Rattenaorten

Summary Corticosterone was shown to have an inhibitory effect on the contraction caused by a cardiac glycoside (g-Strophanthin = Ouabain) in isolated strips of rat aorta. It could be demonstrated that over a tenfold concentration range of Ouabain, the kinetics of this antagonism are in accord with the assumption of a competitive inhibition.

Natriuretic potency of hydrochlorothiazide in humans

Zusammenfassung Hydrochlorothiazide, ein oral verabreichbares Diuretikum, führt beim Menschen in Dosen von 25 bis 75 mg zu einer exponentiellen Zunahme der Natriumausscheidung. Eine maximale Diurese wird mit 75–100 mg erreicht. Das neue Pharmakon ist 20mal aktiver als Chlorothiazide.

Über den Nukleinsäuregehalt des normalen und hypertrophischen Kaninchenherzens

Summary In left ventricular myocardium of 9 hypertrophic (artificial aortic insufficiency) and 12 normal rabbit hearts, ribonucleic and desoxyribonucleic acids were determined. In hypertrophy DNA-P was significantly reduced, where-as RNA-P was higher than in normal myocardium. The RNA-P/DNA-P ratio was 2·9 in normal as compared to 4·0 in hypertrophic heart muscle.

Zusammenfassung Pharmakologische Untersuchungen im Hinblick auf eine eventuelle Wechselwirkung von psychotropen Pharmaka und biogenen Aminen ergaben: (1) offenbares Eindringen von 5-HT, DA und NE in das Zentralnervensystem junger Hühner. (2) Schlafcharakteristisches Verhalten von EEG und Verhaltensweise nach Verabreichung von 5-HT und NE. (3) Auftreten der ?arousal?-Charakteristika mit anf?nglicher Akinese im EEG und Verhalten nach Dopamin- oder Dopazufuhr.

Purin- und Pyrimidinbasen der Desoxyribonukleinsäure des Ehrlichschen Mäuse-Ascites-Karzinomas

Summary The proportion of purines and pyrimidines in the DNA of the Ehrlich mouse ascites carcinoma is examined and compared with the base proportion of the DNA from liver and kidney of the normal mouse. The following findings were obtained: The DNA of the ascites tumor contains more guanine and less cytosine and thymine than the DNA of the normal mouse. For guanine this difference is statistically significant. The changed base compound is discussed with regard to the changed growing rate in tumors and the altered chromosome structure in the Ehrlich ascites carcinoma.

Zusammenfassung Dem phenolischen Oxydationsprodukt, das beim Durchleiten von Sauerstoff durch geschmolzenestrans-Dekahydrochinolin entsteht, wird auf Grund der Analyse und spektrophotometrischen Daten die Konstitution III eines 3-Oxy-5, 6, 7, 8-tetrahydrochinolins beigelegt. Seine Entstehung erfolgt wahrscheinlich über das gleichfalls gebildete 5, 6, 7, 8-Tetrahydrochinolin.

Summary Lymphocyte stimulation in vitro could be obtained with allogeneic but not autochthonous or isogeneic granulocytes. Blastoid transformation, mitosis and activated DNA synthesis measured by H³-thymidine incorporation occurred simultaneously. The cytoimmunological relevance and further applications of the findings are discussed.

Advances in the field of adrenal cortical hormones

Zusammenfassung Aus den Arbeiten der letzten zwei Jahre auf dem Gebiet der Nebennierenrinden-Hormone stechen — was die Herstellung neuer, hochwirksamer Verbindungen anbetrifft — die Isolierung und Konstitutionsaufkl?rung des natürlichen Hormons Aldosteron und die synthetische Gewinnung der 9α-halogenierten Hydrocortisone hervor. Diese Ergebnisse haben den Weg zu weiteren wesentlichen Entwicklungen eines Gebietes ge?ffnet, das mit Cortison und Hydrocortison abgeschlossen schien. Auf dem Gebiete der Teilsynthese wurde die Herstellung von 11-oxygenierten aus 12-oxygenierten Derivaten und insbesondere aus Verbindungen ohne Sauerstoff im Ring C stark ausgebaut. Bei der letzteren liegen die wichtigsten Befunde wohl in den mikrobiologischen Hydroxylierungen in 11-Stellung und den anschliessenden chemischen Umwandlungen. Erst kürzlich ist es m?glich geworden, auch die typischen Seitenketten durch mikrobiologische Methoden zu gewinnen. Die Totalsynthese der Hormone aus einfachsten chemischen Bausteinen wurde entwickelt und macht rasche Forschritte. Die Auffassungen über die Biosynthese haben konkretere Formen angenommen. Die unz?hligen Arbeiten über Katabolismus und klinische Verwendung der Nebennierenrinden-Hormone konnten im Rahmen dieser übersicht nicht einmal gestreift werden.

Über Struktur und Aktivität der den H2O2-Zerfall katalysierenden Cu2+-Komplexe. — VI. Differenzierung von nativer RNS und nativer DNS bzw. denaturierter DNS auf Grund der katalytischen Eigenschaften

Summary The catalysis of H₂O₂ decomposition by Cu²⁺-complexes of RNA and DNA has been investigated. It is shown that both complexes decompose H₂O₂, but only the Cu²⁺-RNA-system shows peroxidative activity too, e.g. only in this case the nucleotide bases are degraded. Thermal denaturation of DNA also leads to a Cu²⁺-complex with peroxidative activity, the latter being dependent on the degree of denaturation.

Early replicating DNA ofPhysarum is denser than late replicating DNA

Résumé Le DNA du myxomycetePhysarum polycephalum a été marqué pendant des temps de 10 min à différentes étapes de la phase S. L'analyse sur gradients de densité préparatifs de chlorure de césium a montré qu'une partie de ce DNA, reproduit tôt dans la phase S est plus dense que le reste du DNA, celui-ci étant luimême plus dense que le DNA reproduit tardivement.

Evidences of a photoreaction of the photosensitizing furocoumarins with DNA and with pyrimidine nucleosides and nucleotides

Riassunto Modificazioni negli spettri di fluorescenza si hanno irradiando (3655 Å) soluzioni di DNA o di nucleosidi e nucleotidi pirimidinici in presenza di furocumarine fotosensibilizzatrici. La synthèse de l'ADN prémitotique et préméiotique dans les cellules germinales de l'embryon femelle de la caille japonaise (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

Summary The premeiotic DNA synthesis of the female Japanese quail embryo begins after 9 days incubation. The germ cells in premeiotic S phase present a particular structure different from the structure found in germ cells during premitotic S phase. They are the precursors of the meiocytes in leptotene stage.
