Protection from body weight loss by 2-mercaptopropionylglycine (MPG) in growing mice irradiated in utero with gamma radiation

Summary 2-Mercaptopropionylglycine administered during fetal growth period, protected significantly young mice against loss of body weight during postnatal development induced by 50 R gamma irradiation.Acknowledgment. Radiation protection of pronormoblasts and normoblasts by 2-mercaptopropionylglycine (MPG)

Summary The pronormoblasts and normoblasts in Swiss albino mice were found to be very sensitive to radiation and their percentage was reduced drastically after exposure to gamma-rays. The degree of damage increased with increase in radiation dose. MPG reduced the initial damage and brought about an early and fast recovery. It is concluded that the drug protects the stem cells and thereby reduces the depletion of the regenerating pool which causes a more efficient and accelerated recovery.     

Radiation protection of bone marrow lymphocytes by 2-mercaptopropionylglycine (MPG)

Summary The drug, MPG, when administered before irradiation, increases the radioresistance of bone marrow lymphocytes of mice to gamma rays and helps in promoting fast recovery, especially when exposed to sublethal dose.     

Weight changes in mice after intrauterine treatment with MPG (2-mercaptopropionylglycine) against I131 irradiation

Summary MPG, administered in utero against I¹³¹-irradiation, protected young mice to some extent from loss of body weight at different postnatal intervals. Increase in the tissue weight induced by the internal emitter was enhanced at 6 weeks of age by the drug.Acknowledgment. Modification of radiation-induced spleen weight changes in mice by 2-mercaptopropionylglycine

Summary It was found that the MPG partially protects the spleen against weight loss due to radiation, and exaggerates the compensatory reaction in the tissue during recovery. It is also concluded that MPG protects the stem cells in the spleen, which helps to restore the peripheral blood by extramedullary erythropoiesis.

Summary Chronic ingestion of sodium acetate over a 3-month interval may have an inhibitory effect on some aspect of organification of iodine and consequent synthesis of thyroid hormones.     

Inhibition of thyroid function following the administration of metopiron (SU-4885)

Zusammenfassung Die Goitrogen-Wirkung des Metopirons (SU-4885, CIBA) wurde in Feld- und Wüstenmaus mittels radioaktiven I¹³¹ untersucht. Das radioiodingebundene Protein (Pb I¹³¹) war nach SU-4885 vermindert. Die Zunahme der gesamten Radioaktivität in der Schilddrüse lag bei 49%. Metopiron wirkt als Schilddrüsen-Hemmer.

The effect of acute starvation on thyroid function in rodents

Résumé Après 96 h de jeûne, le rat consomme moins d'oxygène et ses erythrocytes moins de radiotriiodothyronine. La thyroïde de l'animal en état de jeûne absorbe davantage d'iode radioactif administré pendant 24 h et la concentration thyroïdienne en thyroxine est augmentée. Le jeûne ne modifie pas la perte intestinale de la radiothyroxine. L'administration de TSH ne rétablit pas complètement la fonction thyroïdienne, bien que la courbe de la clearance plasmatique de la radiothyroxine des rats affamés se rapproche alors de celle observée après l'administration de TSH chez les animaux nourris normalement.     

Effect of imazalil (1-(2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-2-(2-propenyloxy) ethyl)-1H-imidazole) on biosynthesis of ergosterol in Penicillium expansum Link]

Imazalil is a new fungicide effective against Penicillium molds on fruits after harvest. This compound inhibits ergosterol biosynthesis in mycelia of Penicillium expansum. The accumulation of 24--methylenedithydrolanosterol, obtusifoliol and 14 alpha-methyl-delta 8, 24(28)-ergostadienol in treated fungi suggests that imazalil blocks sterol C--14 demethylation.     

Effect of cytosine arabinoside on thyroid autoimmunity in guinea-pigs

Zusammenfassung An einer Untersuchungsserie experimentell induzierter Autoimmunthyreoiditis beim Meerschweinchen wird gezeigt, dass Cytosine Atabinoside nur einen geringen suppressiven Effekt auf die Autoimmuninduktion hat und die Gewebezerstörung nicht zu verhindern vermag.

Allogeneic effect on induction of thyroglobulin antibodies and thyroid lesions in mice

Summary All previous attempts failed to induce thyroglobulin antibodies or thyroid infiltrates in mice immunized with homologous thyroglobulin without adjuvants. However, an allogeneic effect obviated the need of adjuvants for triggering thyroglobulin-reactive lymphocytes to produce thyroglobulin antibodies or thyroid lesions.This work was supported by a grant from the Margaret Duffy and Robert Cameron C. Effect of 2-Br-α-ergokryptine (CB 154) on lactation in the bitch

Zusammenfassung Es wurde gezeigt, dass bei Hündinnen die Lactation durch den Prolactin-Sekretionshemmer 2-Br--Ergokryptin-methanesulfonat (CB 154, Sandoz) gehemmt wird. Gemessen über 24 Stunden beträgt die ED₅₀ i.m. 6 g/kg.     

Increased responsiveness of the thyroid to thyrotropin by pretreatment with thyroid hormones in intact mice

Zusammenfassung Im McKenzie-Bioassay für TSH, LATS oder TRH steigt die Ansprechbarkeit der Mäuseschilddrüse auf TSH an, wenn die Tiere 3 Tage lang mit Schilddrüsenhormon vorbehandelt werden. Die Mengen von Schilddrüsenhormon sind dabei so zu wählen, dass sie zu einer partiellen Substitution führen.     

Proliferation of spleen cells from mice infected with friend virus in the spleens of unirradiated and irradiated mice

Résumé Quand des cellules spléniques de souris CBA/HT₆T₆ infectées par le virus de Friend sont injectées à des souris CBA/H normales, les rates des receveurs s'hypertrophient au cours de la semaine suivante. Une analyse chromosomale montra que toutes les cellules en division provenaient de l'hôte, suggérant que la splénomégalie fait suite à la libération du virus des cellules injectées.     

Effect of prostaglandin E2 (PgE2) on the biosynthesis and metabolism of noradrenaline (NA) in the isolated and perfused rabbit heart]

In isolated perfused rabbit heart, Pg E2 at concentrations ranging from 1.10(-8) to 1.10(-4) M has shown no significant action either on the biosynthesis or on the metabolism of NA. But it inhibited NA uptake, nevertheless this action was weak.
