Distribution of polyamine oxidase activity in rat tissues and subcellular fractions

The activity of polyamine oxidase (PAO) in rat tissues, and its subcellular distribution, were assayed using a simple polarographic method. The highest PAO activity was measured in the liver and the lowest in the skeletal muscle. In liver, kidney and uterus the highest specific PAO activity was found in the light mitochondrial fraction. PAO was not found in the microsomal fraction except in the kidney.

Photon emission from normal and tumor human tissues

Photon emission in the visible and near ultraviolet range by samples of human tissue removed during surgery has been measured by means of a low noise photomultiplier coupled to a data acquisition system. The results show that among the 25 analyzed samples the 9 from normal tissues had an emission rate of the order of some tens of photons/cm² min, while most of the 16 tumor tissue samples had a very much higher rate.

Lysosomal acid hydrolases of normal adipose tissues of man,monkey and rat

Summary The activities of 3 lysosomal acid hydrolases were examined in the normal adipose tissues of 3 species, man, monkey and rat and very low levels of these hydrolases were found.Acknowledgments. Cholesterol esterification activities in the intestines and pancreas of the albino rat

Summary Cholesterol esterification activities in intestines and pancreas are much greater with unsaturated fatty acids than with the saturated ones; the maximum activity is with arachidonic acid in intestines and with oleic acid in pancreas. The pancreatic cholesterol esterification activity is higher than the intestinal one.     

Distribution of procoagulant activity in the subcellular fractions of human granulocytes

Résumé Les extraits granulocytaires racourcissent le temps de coagulation de plasmas déficients en facteurs VIII, IX et XII. Une activité paracoagulante particulièrement élevée se manifeste dans les subfractions de granulocytes contenant des lysosomes et d'autres structures cytoplasmatiques.

Riassunto L'uso di un nuovo metodo cromatografico per la separazione della Tiamina e dei suoi esteri mono, di, e trifosforico nei tessuti animali ha permesso di definire, per la prima volta in termini quantitativi, la presenza del trifosfato nei tessuti stessi. L'organo più ricco di questo estere è il fegato, seguito dal cuore, dal rene e dal cervello nell'ordine.     

Distribution ofβ-Carotene in subcellular fractions ofBlakeslea Trispora

Résumé On a obtenu 2 pools majeurs de-carotène dans l'homogénat du mycélium deB. trispora. L'un d'eux est associé à la fraction sédimentable à 4,900×g, l'autre aux globules de matière grasse, dans le cytoplasme.     

Effect of the scorpion,Heterometrus fulvipes (C. Koch), venom on some enzyme systems in rat (albino) tissues

Summary Sublethal doses ofHeterometrus fulvipes venom decreased NADP-specific isocitrate dehydrogenase and malate dehydrogenase activity levels and increased NADP-specific glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and alkaline phosphatase activity levels during a 48-h-period.Acknowledgments. Morphological changes in the pineal gland of the albino rat by hypophysectomy and ovariectomy

Zusammenfassung Die dunklen Pinealzellen waren nach Hypophysektomie beträchtlich vermehrt, während die Vesikeln in den sympathischen Nervenendigungen vermindert waren. Auch nach Ovariektomie waren die dunklen Pinealzellen in geringerem Ausmass vermehrt, ohne dass die Vesikeln vermindert waren. Die osmiophile Granula war sehr spärlich.
