Summary Pyruvic and -ketoglutaric acid transaminase is increased in -ketoacidosis caused in guinea pigs and rats by cocarboxylase deficiency (avitaminosis C, alloxan diabetes). Fructose administration not only normalizes the increased concentration of ketoacids and the decreased cocarboxylase activity, but also the increased amount of transaminase. It is suggested that in -ketoacidosis from transaminable ketoacids the increased transaminating activity might be substitute for reduced cocarboxylase activity.  相似文献

Summary IL-6/IFN-2 appears to be one of the important mediators of the response to viral and bacterial infections and to shock. The biological effects now associated with IL-6/IFN-2 include: stimulation of immunoglobulin secretion by mature B lymphocytes (BSF-2 activity), growth stimulation of plasmacytomas and hybridomas (HGF activity), activation of T cells, stimulation of hepatic acute phase protein synthesis (HSF activity), stimulation of hematopoiesis, cell differentiation (DIF activity), inhibition of tumor cell growth (AP activity) and other IFN-like effects. As a typical cytokine, IL-6/IFN-2 is secreted by many cell types and acts in various combinations with other interleukins and interferons.  相似文献

Summary Locomotor activity was recorded in 14 subjects who lived singly in an isolation unit for 16 to 88 days. Their free-running circadian rhythms had a mean period of 25.9 h, with individual means in the duration of wakefulness () ranging from 12.1 to 22.9 h. Summary Glutathione S-transferase activity in rat intestinal mucosa was increased by the injection of -unsaturated carbonyl compounds such as phorone and diethylmaleate, but that in the liver and kidney was not. Since the administration of cycloheximide completely blocked the increase of the enzyme activity by phorone, the increase of the activity may be due to de novo synthesis rather than enzyme activation.  相似文献

The lysozyme of the marine bilave Tapes japonica (13.8 kDa) is a novel protein. The protein has 46% homology with the destabilase from medicinal leech that has isopeptidase activity. Based on these data, we confirmed hydrolysis activity of T. japonica lysozyme against three substrates: L--Glu-pNA, D--Glu-pNA, and -(-Glu)-L-Lys. The optimal pH of chitinase and isopeptidase activity was 5.0 and 7.0, respectively. The isopeptidase activity was inhibited with serine protease inhibitor, but the lytic and chitinase activities were not. Moreover, only isopeptidase activity is decreased by lyophilization, but lytic and chitinase activities were not. We conclude that T. japonica lysozyme expresses isopeptidase and chitinase activity at different active sites.Received 25 February 2003; received after revision 29 May 2003; accepted 12 June 2003  相似文献

Summary Pinealectomized rats were treated orally with melatonin (MEL) for 14 days. Prostates and seminal vesicles were investigated for the activity of the 4-3-ketosteroid-5-oxidoreductase (5-R) and of the 3/-hydroxysteroid-oxidoreductase (3-HSO). The activity of the 3a-HSO was significantly stimulated (p<0.01, Friedman test) when compared to controls. Summary We investigated the thrombocytosis-producing activity of different protein-fractions of human sera in mice. The whole sera, the albumin,- and-globulins were ineffective, whereas the-globulins caused a more or less exact thrombocytosis in mice. The effectiveness of the thrombopoetic activity present in normal human sera is probably inhibited by a factor connected with another protein-fraction.  相似文献

Summary -Glutamyltranspeptidase activity and glutathione levels were studied in rat mammary gland during the lactogenic cycle; both increased during mid-lactation. The enzyme's specific activity with several amino acids showed that glutamine and methionine were the best substrates. Maleate decreased the transpeptidation reaction and increased the hydrolytic activity. These results suggest that -glutamyltranspeptidase from the mammary gland is similar to the enzyme described in other tissues in relation to these properties and the physiological role proposed in amino acids transport.  相似文献

Summary Serum dopamine--hydroxylase activity in spontaneously hypertensive rats and Wistar-Kyoto rats had a positive correlation with dopamine--hydroxylase and tyrosine hydroxylase activities in mesenteric vessels, vas deferens, and adrenal glands at 14–16 weeks of age, a negative correlation with dopamine--hydroxylase activity in locus coeruleus at 3 weeks and 14–16 weeks of age, and a positive correlation with tyrosine hydroxylase activity only at 3 weeks of age, but not at 14–16 weeks of age.  相似文献

Summary Embryo GAD activity and -amylase in the endosperm of 2 different physiological lines (CP; CV) ofxHaynaldoticum sardoum Meletti et Onnis were evaluated and different stages of seed ripening and progressively older seeds were examined. Results concerning GAD activity during ripening show differences between CP and CV seeds, the former being more active. In the ageing seeds, the GAD remains constant (CP is twice as much as CV) up to 4th year and greatly decreases at the 5th. The -amylase activity is fairly constant during ripening in CV endosperm and increases in CP: at the fully-ripe stage, both show similar values. During seed ageing, the activity decreases progressively in CV endosperm while, in CP, values are greater but fairly constant. Summary The antidiuretic activity of oxytocin (OT) was measured in Brattleboro rats with congenital diabetes insipidus. A dose dependent antidiuretic response was found in animals receiving chronic infusions of 0.1 g/h, 1.0 g/h, and 5 g/h of OT. OT infused at the rate of 5 g/h over a 7-day period completely reversed the symptoms of diabetes insipidus. The results support the concept that OT serves as a weak agonist of vasopressin at the level of the kidney and at pharmacological levels exhibits antidiuretic activity.  相似文献

Summary In rats adrenaline, noradrenaline, histamine and iproniazid induced in blood plasma a significant increase of the mean of the enzyme activity of adrenaline oxidases (-globulin-factors, different from coeruloplasmin, ferritin and catalase). Although dipyridamole has been extensively studied as an anti-aggregating agent, its mechanism of action has not been elucidated. Cultured mesangial cells were treated with dipyridamole 1–100 M from 6–72 h. Ecto-5-nucleotidase activity approximately doubled (from 115±11 to 226±14 nmol/min/mg) after treatment with 100 M dipyridamole for 72 h. This effect was concentration- and time-dependent. Cycloheximide, an inhibitor of protein synthesis, did not alter basal 5-nucleotidase activity. However, it prevented stimulation by 5 M dipyridamole. Adenosine availability at the receptor sites was increased by dipyridamole and S-(p-nitrobenzyl)-6-thioinosine (NBTI), which inhibit adenosine uptake into the cell. Addition of dipyridamole or NBTI to the adenosine-treated mesagial cells produced an additive increase in ecto-5-nucleotidase activity. Dipyridamole, through its effect on extracellular adenosine and ecto-5-nucleotidase, may have an influence upon regulation of the glomerular microcirculation.  相似文献

Summary Most of the active individuals ofCarabus cancellatus (Coleoptera) investigated were synchronized by zeitgeber-lengths of 8/8 10/10 or 16/16 h. On the other hand, a smaller number of beetles lost the periodicities of these Zeitgebers and showed a circadian activity rhythm. According to these experiments, the existence of a self-sustained circadian oscillation in carabid beetles is demonstrated. As we believe, a special numerical method of computing the length of activity periodicities was used for the first time.  相似文献

Fifty years ago, four action substances were described as being liberated from peripheral nerve in the course of activity. An attempt has been made to update this information. Confirmatory evidence is available that acetylcholine and thiamine do play a role in the course of activity. However, the question of the relationship in time between their release and the electrical events, and the possible effect on specific ionic gating mechanisms, remains unclarified. Summary GAD activity and -ABA content of wheat embryos at 7 ripening stages were verified with the aim of studying the metabolic activity of embryo during dehydration and quiescence of caryopsis. Data showed that in the early stage of ripening GAD activity is very low, increases rapidly at dough-stage, remaining constant up to waxystage, and decreases in the last fully-ripe embryos. -ABA content appears to be roughly parallel to the variations of GAD activity.This work was supported by a grant from the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche.  相似文献

Summary Cell-free extracts ofTrypanosoma cruzi contain proteolytic activity able to degrade endogenous substrates. The activity was maximal at pH 3 to 4, had an optimal temperature of 65°C, and was strongly inhibited by N--p-tosyl-L-lysine chloromethyl ketone.This investigation received financial support from the UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, the Fundación Julio Cherny, and the Ministerio de Salud Pública y Medio Ambiente de la República Argentina. Summary The effect of refeeding of mice after a fasting period on the uptake of 3H-thymidine and on mitotic activity in the gall bladder epithelium was studied by histoautoradiography. A significant increase in both DNA synthesis and mitotic activity was observed after 12 h of refeeding.Acknowledgments. Summary Amoeba discoides nuclear protein partially purified by passage through Sephadex G-200 showed 3 high-mol.-wt DNA polymerase activities which eluted in and just following the void volume. No low-mol.-wt (45,000 daltons) DNA polymerase activity was detected. Nuclear protein layered on 5–20% sucrose gradients also showed an absence of lowmol.-wt DNA polymerase . The void volume enzyme showed deoxyribonuclease activity, but no low-mol.-wt nuclease activity was detected.  相似文献
