A NEW CHARACTERIZATION OF NBU CLASS OF LIFE DISTRIBUTIONS WITH APPLICATION

Assume an unreliable workstation performing jobs with a random service time, namely, it occasionally breaks down because of unexpected interruptions. As an interruption really occurs, the station is instantaneously repaired and the uncompleted job is restarted again from the beginning till a job is completed without being interrupted. The total service time is shown to be NBU if and only if the total time it takes to finish each job with interruptions is stochastically larger than that without them, irrespective of when and how the breakdowns occur. As an application, a nonparametric procedure is developed to test for the strict NBU property of the service time. Finally, some numerical simulations are presented as well.

FEEDBACK CONTROL OF A CLASS OF FLEXIBLE SYSTEMS WITH COUPLED BENDING AND TORSIONAL VIBRATIONS

In this paper, a class of flexible systems of beams with coupled bending andtorsional vibrations, which has important applications in the dynamics of aircraft is dis-cussed. The existence and uniqueness of the solution for this class of systems are proved,where the spectral analysis method and the unconditional base theory are used, and asufficient condition for the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system is obtained bymeans of the (D) class operators theory.

We study a class of discounted models of singular stochastic control. In this kind of models, not only the structure of cost function has been extended to some general type, but also the state can be represented as the solution of a class of stochastic differential equations with nonlinear drift and diffusion term. By the various methods of stochastic analysis, we derive the sufllcient and necessary conditions of the existence of optimal control.     

OPTIMAL CONTROL OF GROWTH RATE FOR A CLASS OF POPULATION SYSTEMS

In this paper,we discuss the optimal control of growth rate for a class of population systems governed by nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations.Given an ap-propriate cost functional,we prove the existence of the optimal growth rate and give some necessary conditions for optimal growth rate.

ON A UNIVERSAL CHAOTIFICATION SCHEME IN THE SENSE OF LI-YORKE

This paper studies the problem of making an arbitrary discrete system chaotic, or enhancing its existing chaotic behaviors, by designing a universal controller. The only assumption is that the arbitrarily given system has a bounded first derivative in a (small) region of interest.     

ON PRICING MODEL OF THE RESET OPTION WITH N PREDETERMINED LEVELS

Motivated by the reset option with n predetermined dates analyzed by W.Cheng, we consider a kind of reset option with uncertain dates by introducing N pre-specified barrier levels. We claim this reset option consists of some standard knock-in andknock-out barrier options. The closed-form pricing formula is derived by means of a PDE's approach.

This study generalizes the corresponding well-known finite dimensional results of Lapeyre （1989） and Mao （1992）.     

ALMOST PERIODIC SOLUTION FOR A CLASS OF LOTKA-VOLTERRA TYPE N-SPECIES ECOLOGICAL SYSTEMS WITH TIME DELAY

The uniform permanence and global asymptotic stability of a class of almost periodic Lotka-Volterra type N-species competitive systems with diffusion and delays are investigated. It is shown that the system is uniformly persistent under some appropriate conditions, and new sufficient conditions are obtained for the global asymptotic stability of the unique positive almost periodic solution of the system.
