Effect of substrate pretreatment on renal organic ion transport in the adult rat.

The ability of renal cortical slices to accumulate PAH and NMN was not significantly affected by pretreatment of adult rats with large doses of PAH. Pretreatment of adult rats with THAM significantly increased PAH accumulation but had no effect on NMN. Inulin and PAH clearance and filtration fraction were significantly decreased by PAH pretreatment but unaffected by THAM pretreatment. The effects of pretreatment on transport are probably due to non-specific toxicity.     

Circadian variation of serum testosterone in the adult male rat with a late morning acrophase

Summary Serum testosterone concentrations were measured in adult male Sprague-Dawley rats. A simple method for blood exchange in mice

Summary Ease of transfusion and high long-term survival rate were obtained when whole blood was administered via the corpus cavernosum of the penis and removed from the orbital sinus of male C57Bl mice. When 2 volumes of blood are replaced approximately 14% of pre-transfusion red cells remain after hematocrit corrections are made. The influence of somatostatin on drug-induced prolactin release in the monkey

Summary The infusion of linear somatostatin did not block prolactin release induced by either perphenazine, TRH or serotonin. Enhancement of tubular organic base accumulation in renal cortical slices by repeated administrations ofTris-hydroxymethyl aminomethane,tromethamol (THAM) to rats of different ages

Summary After repeated THAM administrations to rats of different ages, an enhancement of THAM accumulation in renal cortical slices was observed, except in newborns. Brain norepinephrine levels and turnover rates in castrated mice isolated for 13 months

Activation of sustained sympathetic vasodilatation in dog by spinal cord stimulation

Summary Electrical stimulation in lateral sites of the upper cervical spinal cord evoked vasodilatation after adrenergic blockade. Sympathetic fibres mediating sustained vasodilatation were shown to be separate from adrenergic sympathetic fibres since the adrenergic vasoconstrictor response in the paw evoked by vasomotor stimulation in the medulla was not reversed to vasodilatation after bretylium.Supported by USPHS Grant No. HL 08570 and part of thesis work by Dr.Rolewicz.     

Evoked release of 5-HT and NEFA from the hypothalamus of the conscious monkey during thermorégulation

Hybridization in the mexican and 13-lined ground squirrels,Spermophilus mexicanus andSpermophilus tridecemlineatus

Summary Evidence of hybridization between the ground squirrels,Spermophilus tridecemlineatus andS. mexicanus is presented on the basis of chromosomal and protein data. The hybrids produced appear to be completely interfertile. Eigene Eigenschaften der Phosphatasen wurden studiert. Auch wurde nachgewiesen, dass die Hydrolyse von ATP und ADP durch mindestens zwei verschiedene Enzyme hervorzurufen ist.

Relation of ATPase activities to iron uptake in rabbit and cat erythroid cells

Zusammenfassung Fe⁵⁹-Aufnahme in Kaninchen-Retikulozyten ist durch erhöhte Werte des Isotops in der wasserlöslichen Fraktion und erniedrigten Werten im Stroma der Katzen-Retikulozyten charakterisiert. Bei Kaninchen- und Katzen-Erythrozyten ist dieses Verhältnis umgekehrt. Na⁺ und K⁺ aktivierte ATPase zeigt die höchsten Werte in den Kaninchen-Retikulozyten.

Elevated kidney glucosyltransferase activity in genetic prediabetic mice

Summary Glucosyltransferase activity in the renal cortex of genetic diabetic KK mice was significantly increased at 40 days of age when compared to that of Swiss albino and F₁ hybrid mice. This increase in enzyme activity in the absence of glucose intolerance can be regarded as an earlier genetic marker for the diagnosis of diabetic microangiopathy.Acknowledgments.
