Effect of brocresine on conditioned avoidance behavior in mice

Summary Brocresine, an inhibitor of brain histamine biosynthesis, has been found to impair the ability of mice to avoid shock in a shuttle box CAR test; escape performance was unaffected in these studies.Supported in part by USPHS Grants Nos. Influence of iproniazid pretreatment on formation of gastric ulcers by reserpine in the rat

Résumé Chez le rat à pylore lié, la réserpine (5 mg/kg) provoque l'apparition précoce d'ulcérations gastriques. Ce phénomène fait défaut si les rats ont été traités préalablement par l'iproniazide, un inhibiteur de la monoamino-oxydase.

Effect of ascorbic acid on biotransformation and modification of the toxicity of mercurials in goldfish (Carassius auratus)

Summary Ascorbic acid mediated a small but significant degradation of methylmercury to inorganic mercury in goldfish (Carassius auratus) and reduced the toxicity of mercuric chloride despite its substantial conversion into organic form. This investigation was supported by a grant from the Fishing Industry Research Account of the Australian Department of Primary Industry.     

Effect of iproniazid on monoamines and monoamine oxidase in human brain

Zusammenfassung Iproniazid in therapeutischen Dosen verursacht beim Menschen eine ausgesprochene Hemmung der Gehirn-Monoaminoxidase und eine Verdoppelung des Gehalts an 3-Hydroxytyramin, Nor-adrenalin und 5-Hydroxytryptamin.     

Mescaline: Its effects on learning rate and dopamine metabolism in goldfish (Carassius auratus)

Summary The pharmacological action of mescaline on goldfish was studied with the Bitterman-Agranoff shock-avoidance test. In short term experiments with high mescaline doses an increase in learning rates was observed. Similar results were obtained with apomorphine andl-dopa. However, when the fish were exposed to smaller mescaline doses (or to fluphenazine) for 3 days, their ability to avoid electric shock was reduced. Apparently, mescaline induced a release of dopamine which stimulated central dopaminergic systems. Subsequently, MAO destroys the liberated dopamine. Thus, the ensuing dopamine deficit appears to be responsible for the marked changes in behavior in the chronic experiment.This work was supported in part by research grants from the National Eye Institute (EY No. 00313) and the National Institute of Mental Health (MH No. 20020), and by the Sterling Morton Charitable Trust Fund.     

The occurrence of a myoblastic form of muscle in the sinus venosus of the adult goldfish (Carassius auratus)

Zusammenfassung Eine licht- und elektronenmikroskopische Untersuchung von Sinus venosus des erwachsenen Goldfisches (Carassius auratus) zeigte eine myoblastische Form von spindelförmigen Zellen, welche quergestreifte Fibrillenm und ausserde eine grosse Anzahl globulärer Teilchen enthielten.     

Binding of mercury and zinc to cadmium-binding protein in liver and kidney of goldfish (Carassius auratus L.)

Summary Mercury and zinc, besides Cadmium, are incorporated into cadmium-binding protein found in liver and kidney of goldfish. In the liver, the Cd-BP incorporates more zinc (40%) than in the kidney (1.2%), while mercury show similar affinity for the Cd-BP of this two organs (17 and 12% respectively).Contribution No. 1032 of the Biology Programme, Directorate General XII of the Commission of the European Communities.     

Effect of chlorpromazine and reserpine on the blood platelets of rabbit

Zusammenfassung Chlorpromazin und Reserpin verursachen 5HT-Freisetzung von Thrombocyten. Chlorpromazin verursacht auch morphologische, elektronenoptisch sichtbare Veränderungen der Thrombocyten.
