A simple method for blood exchange in mice

Summary Ease of transfusion and high long-term survival rate were obtained when whole blood was administered via the corpus cavernosum of the penis and removed from the orbital sinus of male C57Bl mice. When 2 volumes of blood are replaced approximately 14% of pre-transfusion red cells remain after hematocrit corrections are made. Summary A fast simple method for assay of total blood lipids has been devised by precipitating blood proteins with methanol and extracting lipids into diethyl ether. The change in refractive index of the methanol-ether due to dissolved lipids is measured in a refractometer.

Zusammenfassung Blutleukozyten von Ratten wurden mit menschlichem (normalem) Serum behandelt. Die Viabilität dieser Präparationen konnte dadurch demonstriert werden, dass die Zellen durch Phytohemagglutinin in «blast» Formen umgewandelt wurden.     

Influence of heparin and serotonin on basophil leucocytes of rabbit blood

Résumé Chez le lapin, l'injection intraveineuse d'héparine a été suivie d'une diminution significative du nombre des basophiles du sang au cours de 6 h. La sérotonine a produit pendant ce temps une augmentation du nombre total des leucocytes, et au bout de 24 h, une augmentation spécifique du nombre des basophiles.Les basophiles n'ont pas changé de nombre après l'injection de protamine ou de réserpine.

Effect of air ionization on blood serotonin in vitro

Summary The effect of negative and positive air ionisation on siliconized blood serotonin was studied in vitro. The experiments showed that within 10 min positive ionisation increased serotonin levels in total blood (+40%), plasma (+90%), erythrocytes (+50%) and thrombocytes (+200%). On the other hand, negative ionization (10 min) lowered the serotonin content of total blood (–30%), plasma (–42.5%), erythrocytes (–41.7%) and thrombocytes (–72.3%), thus confirming the Krueger Effect in vitro.This research was generously supported by a grant from the Joint Research Fund of the Hebrew University and Hadassah, and Dr. and Mrs.Leonard Appleby of Palmbeach, Florida.Acknowledgment: Our thanks are due to Mr.B. A rather accurate method to determine Vitamine Deficiency from Urine

Zusammenfassung Die Untersuchung der Ausscheidung im Urin nach Vitaminbelastung ist ein zur Bestimmung der Hypovitaminose geeignetes Verfahren, wenn wir die Belastungsdose in Abständen von je 2 Stunden darreichen und die Einzelausscheidungswerte kurvenmäßig darstellen. Die Kurven ermöglichen eine Differenzierung zwischen Hypovitaminose und Ausscheidungsstörung und die Beurteilung des Grades der Hypovitaminose.

A rapid and simple method for the isolation of pure eosinophilic leukocytes from horse blood

Summary An improved and short method is described for the isolation of intact eosinophilic leukocytes from horse blood with high yield (1–1.5 g/20 1). Viability and purity of the preparations were verified by light and electron microscopy and by the trypan blue exclusion test.
